With children I use play therapy, a developmentally appropriate avenue to process and express their inner world and to build emotional resilience.
I draw upon multiple approaches including individual therapy, play therapy, and expressive arts, using a holistic lens. I believe in your inner strength and unique perspective and voice. Whether you are in transition, wading through grief, struggling with identity and your outlook on life, trying to build better interpersonal relationships, or coping with traumatic events or memories; I meet you where you are and work with you in a gentle and collaborative way.

I have enjoyed counseling, playing with and learning from children , adolescents and their grown ups for the past twenty years. As a mother and therapist, I understand the magic and the challenges of childhood and parenting and the not so magical struggles that children and their families face. No matter our age, life presents many obstacles and opportunities to grow. In the overwhelming confusion, we can lose sight of all the things we are doing right. Through gentleness, compassion and empathy, I can help you find the answers already inside of you, experience joy, strengthen your relationships and have fun while doing so.

Hitting replay/rewind on your phone, so you can hear their voice, just one more time. "I just don't know how to help my child . He/she is different than the other children ". Or maybe it's reflecting on who you were before the illness or pain started to identify yourself instead of your accomplishments. Hopelessness, purpose, lost....... Consultation and Counseling offered.

Navigating parenthood can be hard & sometimes we need extra support. If you are feeling overwhelmed or watching your child struggle with things such as anxiety, fear, anger, big emotions, tantrums, big transitions, & difficult behaviors, you’ve come to the right place. I work with children of all ages & their grown-ups, utilizing a collaborative play-based approach to healing. I am passionate about family work & utilizing the therapeutic powers of play to help children naturally work through their problems. Play is the “language” in which children communicate in a non-threatening way. Just as adults "talk" it out, children play.

One of my unique specializations and gifts is working with children .
You wouldn't think that finding the right counselor could be this difficult! It's important to find a the right match and feel comfortable with your therapist. Clients often describe me as someone who is "easy to talk to", has a great sense of humor, is "down to earth" and genuine. I recognize the importance of creating a safe space and welcome the opportunity to get to know you. Together, we'll identify the problems in your life and find the right solutions.

Child Therapists

Do I need to attend therapy with my child?

Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.

How long are sessions with child therapists?

Children’s therapy sessions can last 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. The length of the session may depend on your child’s age and the type of therapy practiced. You can discuss this with therapists you consult and the one you ultimately move forward with.

How do I get a child to agree to seek therapy?

The best approach is to have an open-ended conversation with your child about how they’re doing and what they might be struggling with. When you raise therapy, discuss the concept in an age-appropriate way, for example explaining that a therapist’s job is to help kids handle their hard or uncomfortable feelings. Frame therapy positively, as an opportunity to explore and build emotional skills—it’s an important tool in the toolbox to help kids feel their best.

How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?

A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
