Are you tired of feeling like your thoughts, and feelings have more control over your life than you do? Maybe you've tried to stop using substances—or stop relying on things that keep pulling you back in—but no matter what, you feel stuck in the same cycles. It’s exhausting, and deep down, you know you’re meant for more. I help people who are ready to reclaim their power—people who are done letting their past define them, and ready to create a new relationship with themselves. I’ll help you reconnect with yourself, break the habit of being the version of yourself you’ve outgrown.

Anxiety and depression go hand in hand with stress, and today stress is not functioning in a normal way. We have stress hormones flooding our organs more frequently, We lose sleep, get sick easier, and sometimes have changes in our eating behaviors. Poorly managed stress can lead to serious health problems over time (blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, digestive issues). Life happens and undue stress is often unavoidable. However, there is good news! By taking a proactive stance to manage your mental welfare, you can decrease your bodies’ response to stress and improve your chances remaining healthy longer than many people do.

Meaning that I take into account environmental factors, relationship factors, family of origin, biological, mental, and spiritual factors when creating a treatment plan.
I am a certified Emotionally Focus Couples Therapy (EFT) therapist who specializes in working with highly distressed couples. Through my experience I have found that the most effective way to work with highly distressed couples is through a couple intensive which is a full day session. This allows us the time needed to go deep enough to make progress.

We believe in the hopeful possibilities within relationships, the healing process when things are not going so well, and we understand the difficult impact of uncoupling on the individual and the extended family.
We (Rashawn & Lori Brewster) offer a unique "couple to couple" counseling experience for relationships in all stages (dating, engaged, married, separated). Typical couples/marriage counseling is with 1 therapist but with Elevating Relationships you work with a married co-therapist team. We support relationship issues such as poor communication, harmful conflict cycle, loss of trust, feeling disconnected, and lackluster intimacy. We will partner with you to highlight the areas of your relationship that you’re not experiencing success in and provide research-based tools and guidance designed to cultivate an improved relationship.

I have written some content that you, friends, and family might find helpful on my blog, here: joanneketch
Have you ever wondered "do I have a problem with alcohol" or "do I have a substance abuse problem?" Have you tried to make changes to your relationships, mood, outlook, or habits? Have you Googled looking for answers but find you can't put the solutions in place, or find that they don't last for long? Do you need a custom plan instead of cliché suggestions and cookie-cutter assignments? For over 15 years, I have helped professionals, executives, business owners, and other high achievers make and sustain the changes that they tried "on their own" but were unable to having the lasting impact they were hoping for.

I have 20 years of training in many modalities, most specifically, Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy and Family Systems.
My practice is 100% remote but still face to face, which promotes complete confidentiality and anonymity. This aspect is important to many people who feel counseling needs complete discretion. If your skeptical about the effectiveness please see my website for research articles that prove telehealth to be as effective as in person therapy.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
