I often use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in my practice.
Are you tired of feeling like your thoughts, and feelings have more control over your life than you do? Maybe you've tried to stop using substances—or stop relying on things that keep pulling you back in—but no matter what, you feel stuck in the same cycles. It’s exhausting, and deep down, you know you’re meant for more. I help people who are ready to reclaim their power—people who are done letting their past define them, and ready to create a new relationship with themselves. I’ll help you reconnect with yourself, break the habit of being the version of yourself you’ve outgrown.

I use Cognitive Behavior Therapy to assist you in changing the lenses you use to view your world.
Anxiety and depression go hand in hand with stress, and today stress is not functioning in a normal way. We have stress hormones flooding our organs more frequently, We lose sleep, get sick easier, and sometimes have changes in our eating behaviors. Poorly managed stress can lead to serious health problems over time (blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, digestive issues). Life happens and undue stress is often unavoidable. However, there is good news! By taking a proactive stance to manage your mental welfare, you can decrease your bodies’ response to stress and improve your chances remaining healthy longer than many people do.

With a little guidance and cognitive restructuring, together we can process these experiences and discover healthy coping skills to aid in regaining control of your life.
After 14 years as a middle school teacher, I chose to continue my education in mental health counseling. As a cognitive behavior therapist, I have learned ways to re-frame life events into positive learning experiences. The end result is a reduction of the physical effects of anxiety and depression allowing clients to move forward.

I value developing a safe therapeutic relationship and utilize modalities such as CBT, motivational interviewing, reality testing, and person-centered therapy.
Too often we are expected to travel through life's journey without acknowledging the incredible demands of self-exploration, healing, and discovery. Our world has taught us to believe that if we cannot see hurt, aches, pain, or trauma, then it must not be there. I invite you to challenge this belief and acknowledge that mental health is health, too. Traumas are more often than not invisible, only to be seen when someone is struggling on the outside. It is imperative to pay attention to the obstacles we cannot see.

Cognitive-behavioral techniques, solution-focused strategies and mindfulness are some of the interventions used in therapy.
Life is a journey, full of challenges and transitions that are sometimes difficult to navigate alone. Often these challenges create anxiety and leave us feeling stuck without knowing what direction to go. Making decisions during this time can be overwhelming while creating both fear and uncertainty. But you are not alone and have taken the first step to move forward on your journey.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) Therapists

How does cognitive behavioral therapy work?

Cognitive behavioral therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophizing or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioral therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioral therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
