Hello, I'm Katie, an AuDHD (Autistic and ADHD) therapist, and owner of Anchored in Hope Counseling Services LLC. Are you Autistic/ADHD or suspect you may be? Do you struggle with anxiety or some type of mood issue? If you answered "yes" to either question (or both!), then I might be the right therapist for you.

If you're in need of additional help such as medication, rest assured that you will be connected to a partnering provider who will be part of your care team. During our first session, I like to go over your initial intake form which should include the reason your coming to therapy.

When stress from anxiety builds or persistent depression takes hold, the challenges can touch how you think, feel, and connect with others. Shifts in mood may deepen the strain, leaving you feeling disconnected or unsure of yourself. Taking the step to begin therapy reflects courage and a desire for change. I support clients facing worry, persistent sadness, and mood disorders by helping them explore their struggles and strengthen the tools needed for relief. Over time, progress can lead to steadier emotions, stronger connections, and a clearer path forward.

At this stage of my life and career, I am drawn to working with individuals and couples who feel stuck - stuck in their thoughts, their emotions, their relationships or the direction of their lives. Many of my ideal clients are people who outwardly appear to be functioning, yet inwardly feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure of themselves. They may be wrestling with anxiety, depression, relationship conflict, or the sense that something isn't right.

Keep HOPE alive and NEVER give up. As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and a Marriage & Family Therapist, I offer an open-minded, non-judgmental, and empathetic counseling / therapy approach in a safe and supportive environment. Problems in our lives are either self-imposed or imposed upon us by other means. The person is never the problem; the person has a problem. What we perceive might be different than the reality. Negative beliefs affect us mentally and physically. Misinterpretations and irrational or self-defeating beliefs can create unhappy feelings, self-doubt, stress, depression, anxiety, relationship problems, etc.

Let’s find you holistic solutions to life’s stressors. Perhaps you simply need natural ways to cope with stress, improve mood/sleep, gain energy, find work-parenting-life balance, mental clarity and focus. But you are a soul living a physical life, and likely have lost touch with this aspect of self and your purpose for being. Anxiety, depression, burnout commonly result. You may no longer resonate with your life, and need more confidence to pursue your highest dreams. Worse, completely lost, you don’t even know who you really are. You wear a mask, feel like an imposter. I can help you feel the real you, often for the first time.

I am a therapist who specializes in expressive arts therapy, anxiety, LGBTQIA+ issues, and trauma. I believe that everyone has the capacity for healing, and that expressive arts therapy can be a powerful tool for accessing and processing difficult emotions. I have been working with survivors of trauma for over 5 years, and I have seen firsthand the transformative power of expressive arts therapy. When people are able to express themselves through art, music, dance, or writing, they are able to connect with their emotions in a new way, and are able to release trauma and begin to heal.

Bipolar Disorder Therapists
What is the most successful approach to treating bipolar disorder?
Living with bipolar disorder can be challenging, and a number of therapies have been found effective in providing support to patients as they gain the skills to understand and manage the disorder. Family-focused therapy is often helpful for children and teens (the majority of cases develop before age 19); it aims to minimize mood cycling by improving family communication and reducing conflict. It also helps young people navigate the developmental challenges the disorder can create. Cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) and variants such as Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)help patients manage the thoughts and feelings that influence bipolar mood swings as well as develop specific behavioral strategies to counteract them.

What happens in therapy for bipolar disorder?
Because the patterns of mood switching and its triggers differ for each person and can change over time, mood tracking or monitoring becomes a basic way patients learn about the nature of their condition. One of the most common features of therapy is finding a workable method of mood monitoring, in which patients track their daily activities and rate their moods, then use the findings to adjust routines accordingly. Patients learn ways of handling the many stresses that arise in life so that they do not trigger mood swings.

What kinds of problems does therapy help with?
Like many other mental health disorders, BPD is heavily influenced by stress; therapy provides skills for coping with stressors of all kinds. Therapy is extremely important for helping individuals identify the situations that may trigger mood switching, so that mood swings can be prevented. Therapy may especially target recognition of the early stages of mood change so that they can be managed. In addition, therapy helps patients deal with the significant amount of turbulence the disorder can create in relationships and in work life.

What is the goal of therapy for bipolar disorder?
Therapy helps patients set up their lives to maintain stability so that their mood isn’t constantly threatened by daily events. Perhaps the first task of therapy is to educate people about the nature of the disorder. At the same time, a primary goal of therapy is to enhance adherence to drug treatment. Extended periods of mood stability can prompt patients to discontinue medication, triggering relapse, while the early phases of manic episodes can feel so energizing that patients stop medication, ushering in full-blown mania and the altered self-perception that can lead to destructive behaviors. Another major goal of therapy is to understand one’s mood patterns so as to minimize both the frequency and intensity of mood cycling.
