My name is Andrea Phillips; I am a Registered Marriage and Family Therapist Intern (IMT2694). I work with individuals, couples, and families to explore what is going on in their life and facilitate a conversation that encourages change. Now change is a funny thing; we want it but at the same time we fight against it. As a therapist, I navigate my clients through this process. So what will be the difference that makes a difference for you? To answer that, I employ directive conversation and engaging activities.

You’ve already taken the most difficult step-the first one. You might be experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety, lack of purpose in life, loneliness, family/relationship problems, anger, self-esteem issues and addictions or a combination of things. Our work together might be just as simple as finding a new perspective in life, exploration of a new interest or goal, or it might be a deeper self-exploration. I listen and work collaboratively with you, tailoring our session to your unique needs. I believe in helping people work on what’s important to them from a wholistic view and strengths based.

I have been a practicing clinical psychologist for over forty-five years. During that time I have treated an extremely wide variety of clients in the broadest possible array of clinical contexts. Although I am very comfortable in almost any clinical situation, at this stage of my career I tend to spend most of my time with adults of all ages having a wide variety of issues. Most particularly I work with those struggling with addictions ( both classic and process), anxiety, depression, marital and other relationship difficulties, chronic emotional and behavioral problems, and issues attendant to stage of life transitions.

My goal in therapy is to work collaboratively with my clients and help them rediscover inner strength that focuses and leads to lasting solutions.

As a psychotherapist for over 40 years, I have assisted many people to work through various emotional conflicts. When I started my practice I worked primarily with children and teenagers. As the years passed and I had two children of my own, I began working mainly with adults, conducting marriage counseling as well as individual psychotherapy. In addition to individual therapy, I also ran two ongoing, open-ended groups for the past thirty years. My wife and son are also both practicing psychotherapists at Broward Center for Counseling.

My professional experience began 20 years ago where I received a Clinical Psychologist License (Brazilian Psychology Board). I also graduate from NOVA in Marriage and Family Therapy (Fort Lauderdale). I understand the importance of cultural diversity and establishment of trust in a non-judgmental position. Deborah Richelieu is a licensed marriage and family therapist whose experience includes working with first time moms struggling with postpartum depression or anxiety. Deborah is most passionate about working with newly married couples who are adjusting to life post the wedding day. Deborah is a SYMBIS certified pre- marital counselor. Deborah is an experienced Christian counselor who helps clients bridge faith and their mental health. She has experience with young adults, providing individual counseling for depression, anxiety and grief. Deborah believes in using an individual’s strengths to achieve goals in therapy.
