I work predominantly with adolescents and adults with chemical dependence, emotional disturbance, and anxiety .
I went into this field as a result of wishing to overcome the binds of my own traumas, anxieties, and desire to make sense of my life. That was in 1983. Over the course of my professional career as a music therapist and psychotherapist, I have had the privilege of working with, learning from, and sharing the personal journeys of thousands of people who have had the courage to change. I have a great deal of respect and appreciation for these journeys and would be honored help you explore more effective, healthier ways of coping and healing.

My areas of expertise include the treatment of anxiety , depression, bipolar disorders, PTSD, adjustment problems, and interpersonal difficulties.
I am a fellow traveler on the adventurous, mysterious journey of life. On this journey, we are faced with obstacles we must overcome to reach our goals. When faced with an obstacle, we have several options. Ignore it and pretend it's not there (denial), turn around and go back (avoidance), say we are not quite ready to deal with it and wait for the "perfect" time (procrastinate), or, we can strive to confront it and persevere. Join me on a journey to learn the tools necessary to gracefully and courageously overcome problems and deal with obstacles head on.

Most people I have worked with have experienced trauma, relationship stressors, anxiety , depression, suicidal ideations, substance abuse, & concerns around child development & behavior.
Are you unhappy in your relationship? Are things just not what they use to? Lately, you have not felt like yourself and want to get back on track. Relationships are an integral part of our lives. This is true not only in how we feel our relationships are doing, but also in the sense of belongingness. Anxiety , depression, past traumas, and relationship issues can all get in the way of our mental health. We have an innate need for connection and emotional wellbeing for overall health, and this is what I love to help my clients do.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
