I specialize in working with adults experiencing a variety of anxiety disorders, including panic attacks, generalized anxiety, and phobias, as well as adults with ADHD. I also support clients who have difficulty regulating emotions and navigating the impact these patterns can have on relationships. Many of my clients are thoughtful, insightful, and self-aware, yet feel stuck in exhausting cycles of fear, reassurance-seeking, self-doubt, and overstimulation. You may feel like you know better, but anxiety continues to run the show. I aim to create a space where you feel understood, safe, and able to show up exactly as you are.

Each client is unique regardless of the issue which motivates therapy. Meeting with individuals or couples, I work to clarify goals and generate 'action-items'. I don't tell you what to do or what is wrong with you. I help you identify what you want and what you need to accomplish that. I help you retrieve desired resource experiences from your learning history and get them available in the current life contexts where you need them. My role includes serving as a 'translator' for couples as I help each one hear and understand what the other is trying to say.

The best therapy begins with the relationship built between you and your therapist. Each potential client I meet is told a few things: 1.) Not every therapist is right for you. 2.) Ask questions to assist in gauging compatibility. 3.) If you don't vibe with the first therapist you meet, (including me) that is okay! 4.) You are always allowed to try again to find the person with whom you are able to build a strong lasting therapy alliance.

From those who are struggling with transitioning into adulthood, to those managing the stressors of a "quarter-life crisis,” working with young adults is my specialty. One of the most important skills my clients leave with is the ability to see themselves with more loving kindness and acceptance. My clients gain the knowledge of how to adapt to change, as well as communicate their needs and feelings effectively. I'm here to offer a space that is free from judgment, and a space where you can truly feel accepted.

How does cognitive processing therapy work?
A CPT therapist helps a client evaluate their thoughts about the trauma they experienced, focusing on maladaptive or self-blaming thoughts that can exacerbate symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, or depression. The therapist will work with a client to help them learn to challenge such thoughts and consider different perspectives. The therapist is also likely to ask a client to work on these techniques at home between meetings, such as writing an account of their trauma that can be read aloud during a future session.

What is cognitive processing therapy for PTSD?
Cognitive processing therapy (CPT) is a form of cognitive-behavioral therapy primarily used in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to treat individuals who experienced abuse or violence, who survived natural disasters, who were first responders to such incidents, or who otherwise experienced trauma.

How long does cognitive processing therapy last?
CPT is a short-term therapy. Whether conducted one-on-one or in a group, a complete set of CPT sessions typically includes 12 weekly sessions, along with tasks for clients to complete at home, although this can vary depending on a client’s needs or a therapist’s particular treatment plan. Sessions typically last 60 or 90 minutes.

How effective is cognitive processing therapy?
A large body of research supports the use of CPT to treat people experiencing PTSD, finding it to be effective among different age groups, either in one-on-one therapy sessions or in a group therapy environment. Research suggests that although the initial sessions may be difficult, clients tend to begin to feel positive progress after the first few sessions, and that the benefits tend to last well after the therapy ends.
