I imagine you’re tired of feeling stressed, anxious, and irritable. I can only imagine that you despise feeling this way but just don’t know what to do about it. To give you credit where credit is due, you’ve probably tried so many things to feel better, to feel different, to feel mentally healthy. But still, you find yourself tired of feeling this way. And now you’re tired of feeling tired. I hear you, I feel you, and I see you. On top of that, I’d love to support you. You deserve to experience relief while learning ways you may cope with and overcome these feelings. That’s right, you deserve to experience mental wellness.

It's our human instinct to try to avoid emotions, experiences, people, and situations that are uncomfortable, unpleasant, or painful. The difficulty is that in order to feel the comfort, freedom, or peace we are seeking, many times we need to address the exact areas we most want to run away from. You don't have to be defined by your upbringing, childhood, past or current traumas, abuse, or insecurities. Those do not have to be the end of your story. Through addressing such hardships and relational wounds in therapy we can work together towards lessening your emotional pain and reducing its control over your life.

There are times when a person feels they can benefit from having an objective, nonjudgmental, and caring person help them move forward. I work with many individuals who are experiencing anxiety, stress, sadness, or just feel confused or uncertain about the path they are currently taking. You may be in a difficult relationship or feel that your anxiety and fear are preventing you from getting what you really want out of life. Sometimes support and clarification can really empower and motivate you to make changes that lead to better mental and physical health.

I am interested in helping my clients live their best lives possible, working with them to create a toolkit of coping skills based on their strengths. I believe our lives are shaped by our past experiences, but they don't define the person we are today. Let's clarify what is important to you in your life currently, & how we can work together to move you through what is making you feel emotionally or physically "stuck". Prior to private practice, I worked in the hospital system. I have a strong medical knowledge base, & I specialize in people dealing with chronic health problems and co-occurring mental health issues.

Do you wonder if there is more to therapy than just learning how to manage your anxiety? Or do you think that there has to be a root cause for your chronic depression? There is. Although anxiety and depression may be genetic for some people, we are born as clean slates for the most part. My ideal client is someone who is tired of hearing that living with depression and anxiety is normal. He/she is interested in digging deeper, and understanding the underlying reason for his/her symptoms. He/she refuses to accept that life with anxiety or depression is the new norm, because they know a more empowered life is possible.

Do you feel stuck in patterns you don’t fully understand? Anxiety, relationship strain, parenting stress, or major life transitions may leave you feeling overwhelmed or disconnected. For children and teens, this can show up as emotional or behavioral shifts. For adults and couples, it often involves attachment wounds, stress, or difficulty communicating. You long to feel more secure, connected, and steady within yourself, but may not know where to begin.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists
How effective is treatment for insomnia?
The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?
There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?
There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?
Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
