There are many reasons why people seek counseling with me. Sometimes it's to deal with long-standing psychological issues with anxiety or depression. Making sustained changes in life can be extremely difficult. It easy to fall back into old patterns and unhelpful habits that keep us stuck, even after some positive steps forward. So what brings you to this page? Maybe you aren't where you want to be in life. Maybe you have experienced significant challenges and traumas. Maybe you feel stuck in an unhealthy relationship, or continue to go back to the same unhealthy coping skills. Perhaps your worry, anxiety or depression is paralyzing you from moving forward. Whatever struggles you are facing, know that there is hope, and there is a way out.

Counseling is not just for those experiencing a life crisis or a current difficulty. Counseling is an opportunity to learn new skills, gain new insights, and position oneself for increased health and wellness. My style is a “hodgepodge”, meaning it depends on what a person needs in that moment. One day we may learn coping skills and the next, we may be identifying how personality characteristics contribute to protecting your sense of self. Mind, body, and spirit impact each other, which can also be described as a holistic approach. We will not just look at what you think and feel, but your lifestyle, environment, & relationships.

I have a unique perspective in that I have experience in other areas prior to psychology. I work on problem solving techniques often as quick as the first session, when applicable, because you come here for help. As a therapist, I am here to guide you in the direction you determine. I am not here to "tell you what to do", but rather help you focus on your issues, form goals, and attain those goals. Often I will used testing and other techniques to help identify problem areas, and therefore solutions, so that you may move on with your life.

As a Latinx therapist, I feel strongly that we heal most effectively when treated as a whole person instead of a diagnosis, a trauma, or a bunch of symptoms. Having openness to unlearn unhelpful patterns that keep appearing in your life is key to acceptance. I help Hyper-Independent adults, on a healing journey; unlearn unhelpful patterns that resist their acceptance of what is. We will work towards your desired goals in exploratory ways by connecting mindfully, creating self-love by holding boundaries, & creatively connecting to your joy. My core values & strengths surround compassion & empathy, these shape my practices.

Parenting Therapists
What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.
When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.
How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
