Therapists for Teens and Adolescents in Palma Ceia, FL
I have experience with teens, young adults, Veterans, and active duty military men and women.
You don't need another person to tell you to "think positive." You need someone who can help you understand why you're carrying so much, why the past still has such a strong hold on the present, and why certain patterns keep repeating. Many of my clients are the people that others depend on. They are high-achieving, compassionate, and capable, but inside they're exhausted from carrying more than anyone realizes. Sometimes they know exactly what's wrong, other times they simply know they don't feel like themselves anymore. They may be struggling with trauma, anxiety, perfectionism, or difficult life transitions.

You may have a sense that something needs to change because the way you have been doing things isn't working, despite perhaps years of great effort. You may be completely exhausted, physically, mentally, or emotionally. You might be achieving success, academically or professionally, yet struggling in your daily life. Mundane tasks such as shopping, doing the dishes or paying the bills may feel impossible. And navigating relationships at work or with friends and partners might be confusing or too complicated. You may act okay, saying, "I'm fine." But inside, you aren't.

Offering in-person and virtual therapy for teens and adults in Florida.
You look like you have it together- but internally, your mind doesn’t slow down. You overthink, feel overwhelmed, and find yourself stuck in patterns you can’t break. Many of my clients grew up with emotionally immature or narcissistic caregivers, where survival mode became their norm. As adults, this often shows up as anxiety, people-pleasing, self-doubt, and confusing or one-sided relationship patterns. I specialize in helping women break these cycles. I offer a free 15-min consultation—feel free to reach out.

Sometimes understanding your child's learning, behavior, and/or social-emotional needs and how to help can be a challenge. But taking the first step in supporting your child is the most important one. In order to best help your child, a comprehensive psychological evaluation may be beneficial. Whether to better understand your child's strengths and weaknesses or to assist in treatment planning, early identification can reduce and prevent long-term negative outcomes. I specialize in the assessment of and treatment planning for children ranging from early childhood through early adulthood to help families better support their child.

Accepting new clients. For more info check out my website and media interviews. I do not believe there is an ideal client. In my years of work I have encountered many people with many reasons for why they are the way they are. What I know is that if you are open to the process, we can figure it out. Most of my clients are nervous when they come for the first time, and rightfully so. It's anxiety provoking to talk to a stranger about your "stuff." Despite that hesitancy they overwhelmingly experience relief and begin to see a path forward after we start our work together.

Welcome! Growing up with narcissistic parents, we become creative at finding ways to avoid their criticism, rejection or abandonment. These solutions often become our symptoms in adult life. Maybe you feel anxious, don’t know what you need, what you feel or who you are. Maybe you have a relentless inner critic, self-doubt or rumination on the past or future. Maybe you find yourself constantly busy, unable to rest. Maybe you can't stop taking care of others at your own detriment. Maybe you feel guilty asserting yourself, fear being alone, or fear getting close to others. Maybe you lie or manipulate to get your needs met.

Mind–Body Freedom is the goal. I integrate somatic therapies with traditional talk therapy because, when it comes to trauma, talk therapy alone often isn’t enough. We can’t think our way to feeling safe. Many of us already understand why we feel the way we do — yet still feel stuck. As I often say, “If you could have thought your way out of it, you would have done it by now." ;) Somatic and Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) can help with that. Trauma, chronic stress, and anxiety are stored in the body & nervous system. That fight, flight, or freeze survival energy.

FAQ - Teenage and Adolescent Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
