My clients find, wether they come in with very specific needs or an overall feeling of wanting to change, that I am able to meet them where they are and co-create the way to find what they are seeking. I am a strength-based therapist, who helps the client discover the positive inner attributes they already possess that often are overlooked, due to their struggle. Combine this with a strong counselor-client trust relationship, and we are able to work through whatever brings them in. With a safe a compassionate environment which promotes healing, growth and a newfound sense of purpose and wellbeing, I am honored to provide for others

We all experience change every day. Many of these changes are small and minute, but others make us pause. Are we ready for this change? How might our decisions affect our lives? What happens if things end up differently than we expected? These are normal questions to ask ourselves, and it is typical for change to prompt a variety of thoughts and emotions. Change becomes difficult when we tell ourselves “I can’t do this”, “I shouldn’t do this” or “I must do this”. My aim in counseling is helping you navigate your ever-changing environment to decrease the effects of life stressors and improve your quality of life.

Life is not easy, nor is it necessarily what we expect. How we fit in the world, meet the challenges of daily life, negotiate interpersonal dynamics can be overwhelming at times. Sometimes we just need someone to talk to in a safe, comfortable environment while providing an opportunity to sort our thoughts, examine current and past behavior and augment our coping skills. I can help you navigate these daily challenges, examine the past and augment your tool box which will provide the foundation for you to build the life you desire.

Life can be a real challenge: stress, arguments, impatience, thoughts of divorce, feeling disconnected, depressed, anxious..... It can be hard knowing what direction to take, where to draw the line with others, and how not to be used or abused in the process. Some people need a long-term therapist to work through deep and enduring problems while others may want to check-in for only a session or two to keep in psychological shape. Your goals for happiness, sorting through a decision, reducing your anxiety, or just figuring out what is wrong are equally important to me in working with you.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
