I am an active, engaged therapist specializing in rapid resolution of problems with
anxiety
, depression, suicidal thoughts and behaviors.
I believe effective therapy starts with developing strong empathy as the foundation for establishing our therapeutic agenda and working with you to determine the tools you find most helpful in resolving problems. I provide a brief, well researched mood survey at the beginning and end of initial sessions & you evaluate me & our therapy session so I can learn how to work better with you. Getting feedback after a session helps me to understand you better and that expedites treatment. I will teach you very powerful tools to use in changing how you feel in a very short period. Therapy can be effective in weeks instead of months

Also, I worked at Northepoint Psychiatric Hospital so I have extensive experience with depression,
anxiety
, bi-polar, OCD and chronic mental illnesses that require medication and psychotherapy.
I've been a Psychotherapist for many years and I am excellent in helping folks figure out what's the issue and then helping them to do "Whatever It Takes" to get over it, get through it, or learn to live with it. Again, whatever it takes for peace, health, and happiness. I love working with all the changes we go through in life: from single to married, married to divorced, financial ups and downs, from healthy to a diagnosis, from sweet little children to scary teens and from victim to survivor. With time, all of us meet with challenges.

My practice is generally focused on adolescents and young adults. Adolescence is a time of constant growth, of which can often be coupled with fear and feelings of inadequacy. It is normal for adolescents to seek autonomy and gain independence but they may feel uncertain about their ability to do so. External pressures and responsibilities can increase feelings of
anxiety
and depression. In addition, the current trend of social isolation can intensify negative feelings. A trusted mental health counselor can assist such children in developing effective communication and coping strategies.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
