I have experience working with teens and young adults from all walks of life but specialize in working with members of the LGBTQIA+ community, especially members of the transgender community. I have worked with individuals with anxiety and mood disorders, issues related to identity development, PTSD/trauma, autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, grief/loss, and life transitions and adjustment concerns. I continue to provide Gender Affirming Care Letters of Support, despite many legal attacks on the transgender community here in Florida. I believe that everyone is valid in their gender identity, and no law can change the veracity of that.

This is done through individual therapy which will help you (re)establish healthy relationships with yourself and others. It will also help to increase self-awareness, confidence, and regain one’s sense of purpose. Relational Therapy helps couples recommit to one another, increase intimacy and communication in your relationship as you work through relational transition, infidelity, family adjustment after kids, communication issues, trust, and intimacy issues.

I get it, life is hard. As a highly sensitive person myself, I believed for most of my life that there was something wrong with me - until I learned what a superpower high levels of empathy and sensitivity can be. I believe it takes a tremendous amount of strength to reach out for help when feelings of hopelessness seem to take over, and I also believe that emotional vulnerability is a difficult yet courageous act of self-love and self-compassion. Dr. Donovan earned her doctorate in Counseling Psychology and Human Systems from the Florida State University in 2001. Her specialty was in neuropsychology, with a research emphasis in neuropsychological assessment of patients with traumatic brain injuries. She completed her residency at the VA Medical Center, Washington D.C. and post-doc in Clinical Psychology at Carolina Psychological Health Services. Dr. Donovan worked in private practice for several years before accepting a position as Senior Psychologist for the Florida Department of Corrections in 2004, where she was responsible for the provision of mental health services to over 1,200 inmates in a close-management correctional institution.
