Each individual person is the expert of their own life. With that, it is my viewpoint that the counseling relationship should be collaborative, open, and authentic. The role of a mental health counselor is not to 'give advice' or tell the client what they need to do to 'fix their problems'. Rather, it is the process of building a trusting relationship that fosters a growth mindset specific to each client's presenting concern.

I specialize in helping teens, adults, and couples work through depression, trauma, anxiety, substance use, and relationship challenges.
What if the change you’ve been looking for starts with finally facing yourself in the mirror? If you’re ready for that kind of honesty and growth, I’m probably the right therapist for you. I work best with people who are ready to start accepting their true selves by doing the deeper work that real growth and self-love require. They may be struggling with trauma, relationship challenges, anxiety, or substance use, and need a safe, non-judgmental space to explore their emotions. I never pressure anyone, but encourage self-awareness and tackling trauma head-on, helping clients move forward at their own pace with compassion and support.

Hi, I'm Edna! If you're here, you've already taken a brave step, and you don't have to have it all figured out to reach out. I work with young adults and adults who are curious about themselves and ready to make sense of what's been holding them back. I see clients who are navigating relationship anxiety, breakups, or communication struggles. Some are in relationships that feel stuck; others haven't been in one in a while and aren't sure why, or are longing for connection but feel held back by fear.

My professional work experience is varied and extensive. I have several years of experience in the fields of mental health, forensic and school social work, and counseling education. The fact that I am fully bilingual in English and Spanish has afforded me the opportunity to successfully reach out to two very different and distinct cultures and ethnicities. I am a firm believer in the potential of the individual to help themselves. I also believe that the body, the mind and the spirit are part of a whole and the individual must achieve a balance amongst the parts in order to heal and become stable.

My path to becoming a mental health provider grew from a deep curiosity about how people heal and connect. Over time, I was drawn to trauma-informed, integrative approaches that include art, somatics, and movement, tools that honor the whole person. I’ve always been passionate about holding space for people’s stories and witnessing their resilience unfold. My life experiences and training have left me with particular interest in working alongside individuals with ADHD, depression, anxiety, PTSD, LGBTQIA2S+ individuals, and supporting people who are working on personal growth and self esteem.

FAQ - Teenage and Adolescent Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
