Feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, painful relationships, trauma, life stress, or the emotional impact of menopause or chronic health challenges? Maybe you’re overthinking, emotionally exhausted, stuck in unhealthy patterns, struggling with self-doubt, or unsure what to do next. I help adults heal from difficult experiences, build healthier coping skills, strengthen boundaries, and move toward a calmer, more confident life. A life-upset can elevate stress, depression, and anxiety, as well as impact one’s feelings of self-worth. Issues from the past and/or present can affect confidence in one's abilities to successfully and satisfyingly (re)adjust to life. I have partnered with many people over the years to formulate goals, build on strengths, and learn new skills, strategies, and thought patterns. I have guided people to successfully and intentionally harness their inner power to make their desired life and inner being changes. I believe that every person has that power.

Life is a journey; along the way we step over pebbles and there are times we feel we are standing in front of an unmanageable boulder. We are faced with a multitude of circumstances that challenge our strength. At some point, we discover feeling disconnected from ourselves or those around us. You can gain clarity and balance with difficult life transitions.

I help people whose unresolved trauma has turned into anxiety, depression, fear of living, and avoidance, just to name a few. These symptoms take over at the worst possible moments, therefore, finding it debilitating and are in need of help to decrease these symptoms, and find fulfillment in their lives. I treat couples in marriage counseling who might have grown apart, have infidelity/online love romances, or communication problems. I ask you to question, "What if life with your partner could be as exciting as it was when you first got together?” If you want to find out, give me a call.

Motherhood can bring deep joy—and it can also stir up emotions you didn’t expect. Many women find that becoming a mother awakens old wounds tied to their own experiences of being mothered. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or questioning yourself, you’re not broken—you’re responding to something tender.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists
How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
