I specialize in treating depression, anxiety disorders, behavioral excesses and deficiencies, relationship problems, and chronic emotional disorders; loss, grief and trauma.
I think of my work as a way of helping patients make friends with themselves. I believe that we torture ourselves by holding onto memories that are painful. We play endless "tape recordings" in our minds that create anxiety, depression or compulsive behaviors. We repeat destructive patterns in our relationships which lead to isolation, shame, regret and guilt. Our choices in life become narrow and limited. Keeping unpleasant feelings at bay becomes our priority thus sapping us of energy. With the release of that energy prosperity can develop in all areas of life.

When life feels overwhelming, our minds can convince us that we are alone in our daily challenges and during our most difficult times. We get used to handling it on our own. I believe there is a better way. Working with a psychotherapist who can deeply connect with where you are on your healing journey can be transformative. Transformation might look like addressing symptoms, resolving a problem, or seeking something more. By guiding you to deeper insights and clearer understandings, together, we are better able to confront the barriers that may be holding you back from the life you want to live.

I care about helping you understand what’s underneath the anxiety, relationship patterns, or grief you’re carrying, not just managing the surface symptoms.
Together we'll slow things down and make sense of what's been feeling heavy or confusing. We'll look at the patterns that keep repeating, build practical tools for emotional regulation, and help you feel more solid and confident in who you are, how you relate to others and how you show up in the world.

Are you someone who has experienced trauma and is struggling to heal from these difficult experiences? And are you someone who wants to change? I have over 20 years of experience working as a psychotherapist which has given me training and experience in dealing with a wide range of mental health difficulties. Just some of my specialties are EMDR, trauma informed care, and complex-PTSD. I prefer a psychodynamic approach which involves exploring past events, processing difficult emotions, and examining patterns in your life; as well as exploring how these affect current behavior, feelings, and relationships.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
