I provide psychotherapy to adults and my areas of specialization include relationship issues, depression, anxiety , and trauma recovery.
I believe the cornerstone of creating change is a strong therapeutic alliance..an affirmative working relationship between client and therapist. Our past is a part of our current functioning, in that behaviors and attitudes that once helped us survive can sometimes become outdated and problematic. Therapy is one way to help people "revise" their survival tools and live a more enriching and fulfilling life.

I often work with people who are experiencing sadness, frustration, anxiety , loneliness, and loss of meaning in their lives. Sometimes they know the cause of their feelings but many times they do not. Developing an awareness, understanding, and compassion for one's lived experience can help heal the pain causing our feelings. The work I do with clients often focuses on emotion and trauma.

Hi! I am Nicole French. I have been a counselor for the last 10 years and have worked with some of the most diverse clients helping them to find a path toward health and mental wellness. For some this has looked like freeing themselves from old hurts, finding value in themselves again or possibly for the first time, setting healthy boundaries in various types of relationships, learning skills to manage specific symptoms like anxiety or depression, and building achievable goals in all areas of their lives.

Additionally, I help adolescents and adults navigate through anxiety , depression, trauma, shame, identity, grief, self-harm, LGBTQ+ related issues, racial oppression, and relationships.
Hi friend! Entering therapy can feel intimidating, so I celebrate your courage in taking this first step. My goal as a therapist is to walk alongside my clients, and work to create a safe space for them to heal, reconnect to themselves, and grow. It is an honor to work collaboratively with humans who are open to change and self-exploration.

I specialize in somatic therapy for those who have experienced trauma. Anxiety , depression, dissociation, reactivity, chronic worry, addiction, and hypervigilance are all adaptive responses for the body after having experienced trauma (car accidents, loss, sexual assault, oppression, domestic violence, emotional abuse, developmental/attachment injuries, and many other historically ignored experiences). My approach is queer, trans, non-monogamous & kink-affirming, sex-positive, anti-racist, and based on a harm reduction approach to addiction.

I specialize in grief and loss, anxiety , codependency, boundary work, religious trauma, and deconstruction of religion/faith systems.
Hi! My name is Raf Leathers and I am honored you are here. I believe that to be human is to feel, many things, probably all at once, and to hold space for everything we are and all that comes up. I believe that emotions need a witness, another fellow human to remind us that we are not alone. I am familiar and not immune to the human experience. I too know the complexity of emotions that come from simply existing. The forever search and discovery of one’s most authentic self. The unlearning and remembering of who you are/want to be. Finding the language to communicate who we are and our stories matter.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
