We specialize in helping families with sleep concerns about their children. This may be a child who is brand new, and you'd like to establish healthy sleep routines before children can really regulate their sleep , or it might be a child who has chronic difficulties falling asleep, staying asleep or both. Either way, we've been through this with many families whose children have other factors that make sleep difficult like disruptive behaviors that make it hard to transition to sleep , or neurodevelopmental diagnoses that make it harder to have consistent high-quality sleep , like ADHD, autism, developmental delays, etc.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) are evidence based treatments that has been shown to be highly effective in treating anxiety, insomnia and the symptoms of perfectionism.
Are you experiencing panic attacks, social anxiety or excessive worry? Are you having a hard time falling asleep, or are worries keeping you up all night? Perhaps you are stuck in the cycle of perfectionism, where no matter what you do, it never feels like you are good enough? If these questions are speaking to you, I am so glad you have reached out for help. Anxiety and perfectionism can be truly painful and debilitating. They can impact your ability to love and accept yourself, enjoy fulfilling relationships, reach your potential, get tasks done, or simply feel able to relax and enjoy life.

Though rooted in a humanistic approach to psychotherapy, I am also trained and certified in several Evidence-Based Treatments including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD (CPT), and Cognitive Behavior therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I).
As a Board Certified Clinical Psychologist, I have expertise in the treatment of survivors of adversity and unforeseen life events. For some of us, life is often unpredictable and certain experiences may throw us off balance. Yet for others, life seems to have been difficult and unmanageable since the beginning and getting on track has been unmet despite the desperation and effort. If you have accepted the need to "make a change", you may consider reaching out to me as an objective and nonjudgemental professional who can support and guide you towards building a life that you experience as "worth living"; whatever that may look like.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
