Finding peace in a world that can be overstimulating at times is possible. Whether you are experiencing anxiety, depression, self-esteem concerns, corporate/work related stress, family conflicts, relationship issues or needing to address unprocessed trauma, I am here.

I specialize in the often invisible wounds of Adoption Trauma and Childhood Abuse.
A warm welcome to my page. I believe we live in a world in crisis-not just environmentally or politically, but internally. Our traditional Western systems of care often treat human beings like machines with broken parts. We have been taught to pathologize our emotional pain, to suppress our symptoms, and to further disconnect from the wisdom of our bodies in favor of a clinical diagnosis. I believe in a practice that treats the entire Person. As a LMSW with 19 years of experience, my approach is rooted in the belief that your "symptoms" are actually brilliant survival strategies to cope with trauma and emotional pain.

I am licensed in FL and have additional training and experience in trauma, adoption, and fertility.
As your therapist, I will be compassionate and authentic. I will invite you into a healing space, nudging as needed, but never pushing beyond where you are ready. We will collaboratively identify steps to reach your goals. I will help you heal from pain, develop relationships that affirm you, cultivate hope, and empower you to become a more self-compassionate and authentic you. “I’m not enough” is a fear I’ve wrestled with, and a theme I constantly hear from clients who have experienced trauma, battled identity-based -isms, are wrestling with the complex emotions of being a teenager, and/or are coping with the stress of parenting.

I work with young adults and adults facing various life challenges, struggling with emotional difficulties, familial and societal demands and views, that might inform and impact their abilities to be their best selves. Individuals and couples that I meet with, are people wanting to make sense of their lives, their relationships and/or working at understanding and embracing who they are. I strive to create spaces in which gender expressions, sexual and affectional orientations, are welcomed and explored, as are acculturation issues affecting immigrants. I conduct sessions in English, Haïtian Creole, and French.

You may have already tried the usual fixes—books, podcasts, meditation apps, even therapy that stayed on the surface—yet something still feels unresolved. I work with people who are ready for a deeper kind of healing. My approach isn’t about temporary coping; it’s about going to the root of your story so that real and lasting change can happen.

My approach is neurodiversity affirming. My role as an evaluator is to listen, understand, & accept a client's lived experience & help identify their struggles, as well as identifying their strengths and aspirations. The evaluation process is a collaborative one in which clients, regardless of age (youths get to be truly heard), have an opportunity to share experiences without time constraints & without having to be viewed solely through a set of test data & questionnaires. While these tools can help clients communicate concerns, test data alone is not the best method in truly understanding one's unique experiences & circumstances.

Hi. I have been a licensed therapist for over 25 years and have lived in Miami for 45 years. During this time I have worked with children and families in an office setting as well as individuals who struggle with anxiety, depression, anger management and many other issues and just generally coping with all that life has thrown at them. My methods vary and my preference is for short term solution oriented therapy.

Hi there. I’m Danica. Have you struggled to trust others throughout your life because something always seems to go wrong in relationships, leaving you feeling hurt, betrayed, or psychologically/emotionally drained? Is it hard to see your way to stable happiness without feeling like the other shoe will drop? Feeling fearful of relationships, lonely, anxious and depressed while others seem to be living their lives with little effort can be disheartening.

I believe that true emotional healing comes through holistically tending to the body, mind and spirit. I offer full range psychotherapy services that I combine with several Somatic or body-based techniques. As a registered Yoga Teacher, I have been known to incorporate meditation, breathing or physical postures in my sessions. The research shows that trauma, grief and the after effects of some of our experiences are stored in our bodies. What better way to heal or release them from our bodies than to intentionally use body exercises to move this harmful trauma energy out for good. I work with new mothers, children and families.

Is your child struggling with big emotions, behavior challenges, or changes at home or school? You may feel unsure how to help or worried about how they’re coping. I work with children and families to better understand what’s behind these behaviors and support them in building emotional regulation, confidence, and healthier ways of expressing themselves.

Adoption Therapists
Does my adopted child need therapy?
Not every adopted child needs therapy. However, many can benefit from seeing an adoption-informed therapist, especially if they were victims of abuse or neglect, appear withdrawn or disconnected, have behavioral or developmental issues (which may or may not be related to their adoption), are struggling with feelings of grief or loss surrounding their birth parents, or find it difficult to establish an identity, a challenge that often becomes most apparent during adolescence.

When should adoptive parents seek therapy?
Prospective parents can benefit from therapy even before an adoption—for example, to voice worries and fears; to reconcile infertility struggles, if relevant; or simply to prepare themselves for parenthood. After the adoption, parents who are struggling to bond with their child; are unsure how to talk about adoption or related issues, such as race; or whose child is dealing with developmental, behavioral, or psychiatric concerns can address these and other issues with the help of an adoption-competent therapist.

Is family therapy appropriate for adoptive families?
Family therapy can be invaluable for strengthening the bond between adoptive parents and children, helping the latter feel more secure in their place in the family. Family therapy can also help adoptive families navigate complex communication issues—for example, parents who feel uncomfortable discussing race with their child, who in turn feels invalidated by their silence, or a child who has questions about his birth parents but avoids asking them out of fear of hurting his adoptive parents’ feelings.

What therapy is not appropriate for adoption issues?
A discredited therapy known as “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy” or “rebirthing therapy”) should not be used to treat adopted and foster children, though it was largely designed for this population. Attachment therapy involves restraining, coercing, and punishing the child in order for them to “release” negative emotions and attach to their new caregivers—techniques that are abusive and dangerous and have even proven fatal in some cases.
