We are all facing new and challenging times. As a licensed clinical psychologist for over 40 years, I am here to help. I provide a warm, caring, and safe environment where my clients can begin to cope with their isolation, depression, anxiety , loneliness, confusion, and many other issues. My practice is a somatic (body based) psychotherapy versus the psychodynamic talk therapy I originally trained in - treatIng those affected by anxiety , depression, relationship issues, stress, frustration, or an ongoing sadness you can’t put a finger on. Perhaps a particular trauma or history of unmet needs? My treatment approach helps resolve those issues, based on working towards nervous system regulation and healing childhood attachment disruptions at the root of what brings most to therapy though you may not realize that at first. Still, a good talk-it-out session can be valuable from time to time. You decide with my guidance.

I work with diverse populations and specialize in depression, anxiety , and trauma.
I believe that many of our problems arise from the depths of our unconscious that influence our lives and present themselves daily. It’s important to create a space to bring the unconscious to conscious awareness to heal with intention and wisdom. I believe that people heal through introspection resulting in insight and clarity. Once you become aware of those unconscious thoughts and behaviors, you can develop skills and techniques to implement in your life. Thus, you will feel empowered and in more control of your life.

Many people are wary of the therapeutic process because of fears around being judged or facing the unknown. One of my important roles as your therapist is to remove barriers that feed such fears so that you can begin to authentically express yourself and experience the type of healing and growth that is made possible through the therapeutic relationship. I hope that through collaborative exploration we can find a path that leads you to a future of greater clarity and freedom.

My Expertise: I specialize in supporting clients encountering challenging life circumstances like a divorce, change of career, or a dysfunctional relationship, which often manifest themselves though anxiety , depression, feelings of dissatisfaction, anger or increased substance use.
Why FREE 30-minute initial consultation? A good counselor-client match is essential for reaching clients' goals. The trial and error method of identifying a good counselor is not cost-efficient and often becomes a barrier for many people to access the support they deserve. My Experience and Education: I am a NY & FL State licensed mental health counselor with a Master's degree from University of Rochester, NY and currently completing my doctoral degree at University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. For 9 years I served as a faculty member at the Department of Psychiatry at University of Rochester and as a clinician supporting adolescents, adults and families. I have worked with more than 60 educational institutions across the country, large companies, as well as with the U.S. Air Force.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
