Some seasons in life feel exceptionally heavy and overwhelming. Times of relational and/or internal stress leave us yearning for everyday life to just pause so we can deal with or escape the heavy emotions experienced. Are you burdened, confused, and feeling stuck like things will never get better?

Years of experience counseling, providing letters for clients referred/mandated by, court, probation, parole, substance abuse agencies, doctors, psychiatrists, sober houses and/or other legal entities, individuals, relapse prevention, anger management, co-occurring disorders, women's issues, addiction and mental health issues.
Starting Jan 2024 I will be accepting Medicare Part B. Every person has a journey in life and when consumed with stress, anxiety or any other problems, I am here to help. We can take that journey together and figure out the best way to go. Sometimes it helps to talk privately about the issues that make us lose our way. We will find the way that works best for you, quietly, privately and calmly. We will find the inner strength that each person has and expand on that strength, emphasizing the strengths.

Hello, I am Jessica Alea, LMHC. If you have gotten this far, then you understand how much trauma and/or anxiety can impact a person’s ability to find joy. Our minds can be our own worst bully. Experiencing anxiety and trauma, can leave one feeling tired and frustrated. You may feel irritable or too exhausted to deal with social situations. You may spend a lot of time thinking through how to handle social situations because it feels unsafe. Each situation presents another battle with how much you can handle. It just feels like your mind is always "on." If sounds familiar, I can help you find relief.

My clients often come to therapy grappling with uncertainty, high stress, or loneliness in their lives. Sometimes they are feeling intense emotions, or behaving in ways that are confusing and frustrating for them. They may be feeling disconnected from other people, or feeling overly worried about how others perceive them. They are seeking more connection, peace and balance in their day-to-day.

My desire as a therapist is to help others discover the joy in living. I believe that those burdened with traumatic or distressing life events can find hope, healing, and freedom. Many high-performing, intelligent people secretly battle anxiety, depression, and trauma/stress, and they become overwhelmed trying to handle it alone. The mask of perfection smiles that "everything is ok," while the true person feels lost, drained, and confused. If you or a loved one are having difficulty navigating life due to upsetting, stressful life experiences, therapy can provide opportunities to breathe deeply again and look forward to a new day.

Every day we all make choices about what we do or don't do. Each of these choices, no matter how big or small will affect the results that we get in life which therefore influences how fulfilled or unfulfilled we go on to feel. Life coaching helps to identify your core values (what's really important to you) which in turn enables you to make wiser choices and ultimately create a more effective, balanced and fulfilling life. The Life Coaching process examines what is going on in your life right now by unpacking your obstacles and/or challenges and formulating a strategic plan of action to help YOU achieve the things that you want!

Women's Issues Therapists

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
