I understand that reaching out for counseling can feel overwhelming, and that finding a therapist who feels like the right fit is an important and often vulnerable step. Counseling is about you. My role is to provide a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where we can work together to help you create the life you want to live. My clients include children, families, and adults navigating learning differences, the grief of losing a parent or sibling, family transitions like divorce, and the weight of being the one holding everything together. Whatever you are facing, reaching out for help is a brave and healthy step.

With over 20 years of experience as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I help adults navigating depression, anxiety, PTSD, and trauma from difficult or critical family relationships.
Coping tools are important, but I also help clients work on deeper patterns that keep them stuck. This includes changing core beliefs such as “I am not enough” and reducing cognitive distortions like all-or-nothing thinking. Together, we build a healthier, more balanced way of seeing yourself and your relationships.

Our current political and economic climates give many causes for concern. It can affect daily life, such as work, home, school, and social circles, essentially taking the fun out of what was once pleasurable. The same things that DO seem to help can eventually cause more pain. Who can you talk to when no one is listening? It would be helpful to have someone to talk to who can be objective, non-judgmental, and open-minded...but who could that be? Hello, I'm Montavious. What sets me apart is an ear for listening, a guiding approach, and an interest in helping you to overcome these obstacles.

You Want Something to Change. I Help You Make That Happen. Hi, I’m Kemi Bakare—licensed therapist, deep listener, and someone who’s genuinely invested in helping you move forward. You don’t need someone to nod and take notes. You need someone who can sit with your story, help you make sense of it, and challenge you (with care) to build the kind of life or relationship you actually want. I work with individuals, couples, and families who are done spinning their wheels. You might be stuck in old patterns, burned out by miscommunication, or simply tired of carrying so much on your own.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
