Ready to make a change but not sure how to get started? Many of us are struggling with anxiety,
sleep
issues, feeling unmotivated and stuck. I will act as your guide in self discovery and encourage you to identify patterns of thoughts and behaviors that are holding you back. We will draw on your strengths and choose the direction you want to take in resolving personal, career and relationship challenges. We all want to be loved and valued in our relationships, but struggle at times with communication, intimacy, self esteem, or conflict. Disappointment and resentment build and our feelings about our partner change.

When the pressures of daily life create distress, there is great satisfaction in finding a solution to lower your natural instinct of fear and anxiety. The main focus of my practice is to locate the limiting beliefs from your history, to free you from the contradictions that limit your growth and confuse you in relationships. The most important goal of therapy is to raise awareness regarding your natural inclination to react to negativity. When you are well anchored on the inside you will not emotionally react to an external challenge or threat.

My favorite part of being a therapist is someone trusting me to be on their journey as they find their voice, heal and return to life with better self-awareness and self-compassion. I would say my style of therapy is laid back and informal where someone can come as they are. I believe in meeting the client where they are at while incorporating humor, creativity and empowerment into the counseling process.

Anxiety, depression, panic disorders, and unhealthy relationships can often be traced back to unresolved trauma, particularly if it took place over a long period of time or targeted your own self-worth. Your story doesn't have to end there; I can help. I've been a member of veteran and first responder communities for over 20 years and I specialize in working with those populations, including those struggling with chronic illnesses and rehabilitative medicine. Prior to counseling, I also served for fifteen years as an educator and developed a passion for helping adolescents and young adults to navigate their pathways to adulthood.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists
How effective is treatment for insomnia?
The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.
Are there specific medications for sleep problems?
There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.
Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?
There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.
What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?
Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
