I have practiced in the community of Jacksonville for more than 10 years. I have been a licensed clinican for 8 years. I have experience conducting individual, family psychotherapy, group, initial diagnostic interviews, and crisis intervention in mental health settings. I am currently working in a school setting that addresses military related stressors.

My name is James Sweeney, the founder of Grace & Guidance Wellness/Counseling, in Jacksonville Beach, Florida. I am a trained ART Therapist. Accelerated Resolution Therapy is a form of psychotherapy with roots in existing evidence-based therapies. Which has shown to achieve benefits much more rapidly usually within few sessions? Clients with depression, anxiety, panic attacks, (PTSD) substance abuse, sexual abuse and many other physical conditions. My ideal client is one who is striving to make a change. In order for this to occur, there must be cooperation and mutual respect between all parties. I will also work with those who are unable to express their feelings & thoughts and who have built these up due to the stigma regarding mental health.

I have counseled for 18 years in a variety of settings, to include a community mental health agency, private practice, and a correctional facility.

My dream job isn’t bringing the fulfillment I thought it would. I envisioned myself fully showing up in this world, but now my trauma leaves me powerless beneath my anxiety and depression. I identified with a religion that once gave me freedom, but now it leaves me in bondage. My family was once a safe haven, but now dad is drinking too much and everything I knew is gone.

I am licensed in the state of Georgia and have worked in the mental health field for 20 years. Seven of those years I have worked as a therapist/counselor. Some of my experience includes working in a residential treatment center, in an outpatient community mental health clinic, private practice, as well as in school settings. I have worked with those from all different ethnic backgrounds with great outcomes. I enjoy helping adolescents and adults live happier, healthier lives, by improving their mental health and education.
