I believe relationships to be essential to how we develop into ourselves and extend ourselves to have a positive impact in our work, families, and communities. I think that many people seek therapy to unlock the love, hope, and dignity we all have available to us, and which sometimes become inaccessible or obscured by our fears and past hurts. I am interested in understanding and exploring your concerns, and finding ways to address them together in a safe and secure healing relationship.

My professional counseling work in the behavioral and mental health field has been a learning and practice journey. After I completed my A.A. in 2008 in Criminal Justice, I continued to complete my B.S. in 2010 and my M.S. in 2011 in Psychology from the University of Phoenix. During that process, I provided services for a variety of populations. Feeling that I wanted more training, I earned another M.S. in Mental Health Counseling in 2017 from Capella University while also making the President’s List. I am currently a Licensed Professional Counselor in South Carolina and a registered out-of-state telehealth provider for Florida.

My desire is to provide each client the opportunity to find HOPE. Hope for understanding, healing and growth. Hope for freedom, joy, and peace. Hope for wholeness and real, true rest. The truth is, life is hard. We often find ourselves confused, disillusioned, disappointed, angry, sad, afraid, addicted or simply numb to it all. The process of counseling can and does often lead a person to a place of newfound hope, where one can experience the broken parts of their stories and relationships restored.

Motherhood was never meant to feel like running an endless marathon — yet so many women today are running on empty, trying to hold it all together. You might look like you “have it together” on the outside, but inside you’re exhausted, anxious, or wondering when you’ll finally get a moment to breathe. I work with millennial moms who are high-achievers, caregivers, and doers — the ones everyone else leans on — who secretly feel burnt out and overwhelmed. In therapy with me, there’s no pressure to be perfect.

Our current political and economic climates give many causes for concern. It can affect daily life, such as work, home, school, and social circles, essentially taking the fun out of what was once pleasurable. The same things that DO seem to help can eventually cause more pain. Who can you talk to when no one is listening? It would be helpful to have someone to talk to who can be objective, non-judgmental, and open-minded...but who could that be?

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
