Family counseling involves each member of the family working together to solve problems.
Ready to make a change but not sure how to get started? Many of us are struggling with anxiety, sleep issues, feeling unmotivated and stuck. I will act as your guide in self discovery and encourage you to identify patterns of thoughts and behaviors that are holding you back. We will draw on your strengths and choose the direction you want to take in resolving personal, career and relationship challenges. We all want to be loved and valued in our relationships, but struggle at times with communication, intimacy, self esteem, or conflict. Disappointment and resentment build and our feelings about our partner change.

As a Licensed Marriage and Family therapist , I combine the world of mental health and family /relational conflicts to help guide clients to a space where healing can began.
THE Office is moving to full time hours 10am-7pm starting October 1, 2022. I believe we are the sum of what we encounter in life and how we react to these encounters. Encounters began during the time where we relied on others to love and protect us. When we didn’t have control over what happened to us. Sometimes leaving us with a uneasy perception of the world. If the perception is bad, the world is bad. If the perception is unsafe, the world is unsafe. If the perception is untrustworthy, the world is untrusting. Now the world in front of us has become full of unsatisfying feelings and a journey trying to escape emotional pain.

There’s no particular roadmap to navigate the struggles we encounter in life, which is why believing that our problems are unworthy of being tended to, take away from the possibility of bettering ourselves. As a therapist invested in trauma and marriage and family therapy , I understand that many people struggle in silence while fostering the belief that their feelings and reactions to deeply impacting events are invalidated, and even uncalled for. I’m here to retract that narrative, and help clients navigate through the rawness and reality of their experiences.

I'm a big believer in family systems and I work to include any and all systems impacting my patients, including family members, schools, workplaces.
I NEED HELP!! Now more than ever before there is a need for mental health counseling. The psychosocial stressors caused by the pandemic - the physical risks, the daily disruptions, uncertainty, social isolation, financial loss - coupled with feelings of helplessness, hopelessness (all known to affect mental health and thereby physical health) are legend. In my practice I see individuals, couples, and children ages 8 through the teenage years. I've had much success with parents reaching out for help with their children who are experiencing the same psychological toll of the unnatural circumstance of isolation at home.

My name is Laura and I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist .
You may find yourself here, feeling completely disconnected and distant from your partner. They're the person you used to tell everything to, who used to bring butterflies to your stomach; but you’re sitting back, looking at your relationship now, wondering how you two got here. Your once soul-mate has somehow become nothing more than your roommate - going through the motions to get through another day. You’re tired of the fighting, of the eye-rolls, but most of all, tired of the silence. You feel like you’ve tried everything.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
