Together we build understanding, heal self-esteem and body image, and create lasting change so you feel more grounded, connected, and at peace.
My ideal client is ready — or willing — to explore the deeper layers of their story. They may feel stuck, overwhelmed by anxiety, grief, or struggle to balance caregiving with self-care. They carry generational wounds, feel disconnected from purpose, and long to feel spiritually whole. Often deeply compassionate, they struggle to offer themselves the care they give others. They seek to feel safe, seen, and empowered to release burdens, cultivate self-compassion, set boundaries, and truly thrive.

I believe therapy should feel like meeting yourself for coffee every so often. It should be a space where you can pause, breathe, and hear your own voice. I promise not to sit silently and nod my head. I will actively engage with you, ask thoughtful questions, brainstorm solutions, and even share a laugh or two. I'm a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, which means I get to have meaningful conversations with incredible people. I help clients manage anxiety, resolve relationship issues, and improve self-esteem. I also offer specialized support for religious trauma, LGBTQ+ concerns, and neurodivergent challenges.

Bad habits do not form from fully bad intentions. I believe that most people do the best that they can with what they have available to them at the time. As a result, I often see people stuck in self-destructive or harmful patterns that they themselves don't know how they got there. Change begins when we start to have the feeling that these old patterns and ways of being are no longer working for us in the way that they used to. The feeling that something has to change, and maybe feeling lost or defeated in how to make a meaningful change, may have been what lead you here.

You’ve officially reached your limit. You know that something needs to change, and you're beyond ready for some relief, but deciding where to start feels like a moving target. You’ve read about attachment styles and emotional dysregulation and most of it makes sense in theory, but things aren’t actually changing. You react to stress and conflict in ways that you don’t fully understand, which often results in being misunderstood and second guessing yourself. Half the time you don't even know what your actual feelings and needs are so... um, how are you supposed to effectively communicate these things to another human?

I work with adults struggling with body image, disordered eating, and the belief that their worth depends on their appearance.
You’re here because you know that you deserve better. When we’ve experienced events in our lives that cause significant distress it can be hard to remember that we’re worth continuing to care for ourselves and asking for help. Our emotions can feel so big that they take over and we feel powerless in our own decisions. The fact that you’re here and reading this tells me you’re ready to try something different.

You have made the brave decision to show up for therapy, to show up for YOU. I attempt to understand the world from the client's view; to give the most valuable healing gift: being heard. Together, we determine what is missing & what is important (the Why: purpose), how the client wants to find fulfillment (the What: set goals). We determine How we will know they are successful and can continue on their own (measures for termination). I've been a Chaplain. I counseled people living with schizophrenia, bi-polar, or addictions, and prisoners - exhibiting anxiety, depression, grief, identity disorders, impulsivity & trauma response.

Body Image Therapists
How does body image affect mental health?
Poor body image can influence mental health because it can reduce self-esteem and decrease functioning in other areas of one's life. Negative body image may hinder someone's ability to perform daily tasks, including professional and social responsibilities, because they may feel self-conscious or shame surrounding their appearance; a desire to change one's body as a result of negative body image can also trigger behaviors such as extreme dieting, excessive exercise, or obsessive social media comparison. Poor body image is associated with a number of mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, and eating disorders, although many people experience negative body image even in the absence of meeting the diagnostic criteria for any mental health disorders.

What does it mean to have a positive body image?
Body image refers to how one internally perceives their appearance and internally "talks" to themself about their body. Positive body image is therefore indicative of a positive perception of one's self and positive internal self-talk that underscores one's strengths. People who have good body image often have higher self-esteem, self-worth, and self-confidence, and they also often recognize how external factors, such as social media or relationship patterns, can influence body image. While body image can change at different life stages and in response to various triggers, practicing self-acceptance and a body-positive mindset can help maintain a more stable sense of positive body image.

Is body image the same as self-esteem?
Body image and self-esteem are often related, but they are distinct concepts. Self-esteem is a broader term that can be shaped by a number of factors outside of body image, including one's functioning at school or in the workplace; it refers to one's capacity to handle various life challenges. Poor body image can be one way in which one's self-esteem is reduced. Reduced self-esteem as a result of poor body image can cause individuals to feel negative about their appearance, withdraw from social interactions, and/or rely on harmful behaviors as a coping mechanism. A "body positive" approach to body image therapy is therefore often used to encourage a more positive view of one's self and thus encourage better self-esteem.

What type of therapy is best to foster a positive body image?
The type of therapy best suited to improve body image depends on each person, as there is not a single therapy specific to body image improvement. That said, many individuals with poor body image benefit from therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness-based therapy. CBT can be used to help challenge distorted or negative thoughts about one's body, while ACT and mindfulness practices can facilitate a more positive body image through self-acceptance and identification of one's personal strengths. Regardless of treatment type, clients should look for body image therapists who encourage the development of a sense of self outside of their external appearance and help clients reduce unwanted behaviors developed as a result of poor self-esteem, such as dieting or disordered eating patterns.
