The best gift you can give yourself and your loved ones is your own healing. At some point, we all are challenged by psychological stress and overwhelming life events. A lack of support, unhealed trauma, or emotional wounds can bring on strong feelings of anger, irritability, anxiety, depression, or mood swings. It may seem difficult to reach out for help, but counseling and therapy can play a beneficial role by providing insight and self-awareness. At Thriving Minds, you will get professional and personalized care for successful long-term recovery.

Life can leave you feeling stretched thin. Maybe your mind won’t turn off - replaying conversations, second-guessing what you said, wondering if you handled things “right.” This might leave you feeling sad, lonely, anxious, or simply drained, with nothing left in your tank. You're not alone, and you don’t have to figure it out by yourself. My goal is to offer a space where you feel heard, understood, and supported - not judged. With over two decades of experience, I help clients untangle what feels overwhelming, gain clarity about what matters most, and move toward a life that feels more balanced and satisfying.

I hear you. You feel on edge, anxious, or unsettled after what happened—an accident, medical experience, loss of loved one (or pet), or sudden terrible scare that your system hasn't been able to shake. Even if life looks "fine" on the outside, your body reacts as if something is still wrong. You want relief, clarify, and a way to feel calm and like yourself again without endlessly rehashing the past. You're looking for therapy that actually helps your nervous system reset and move forward.

I think as human beings we want to feel seen, heard, appreciated, respected, loved, and valued. I believe most of us want to make a difference in the lives of those around us, our loved ones, friends and community. Making a difference and enjoying healthy and gratifying relationships and contributing to one's community can take many forms but they all involve relationships. If you find yourself feeling deeply unhappy, confused and dissatisfied in any of your relationships, I'd like to learn more about you and what you are seeking in your life and in your relationships.

You may be doing all the things—functioning, helping others, pushing forward—while internally feeling anxious, overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, stuck, or disconnected. Maybe you understand your struggles intellectually, but your mind and body haven’t caught up. Or perhaps making sense of anything feels difficult right now. My ideal clients are thoughtful, growth-oriented individuals navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, stress, burnout, life transitions, or emotional overwhelm who are ready for meaningful change. Together, we move beyond insight alone toward greater resilience, healing, and forward movement.

Ready to feel calm, capable, have rewarding relationships, and speak your mind? Tired of playing small, people-pleasing, feeling resentful, confused, exhausted and anxious? You CAN crush your inner critic and create the confidence, relationships, and life you wish for. Over the last thirty years as a therapist and coach, I have learned HOW to manage your anxiety & emotions, how to say "no" and also "yes" (to help, love, joy); how to create fulfilling, peaceful and supportive relationships; and to be grounded in the present moment - grateful for and able to appreciate what matters most.

Effective therapy, in my view, moves forward only when you, the patient, do not feel judged, talked down to or told what to do. It is only in this atmosphere of mutual respect and regard that you will surface and examine your issues in ways that give you insight to the "why's" of the choices you've made in the past, your responses to life's events, and options you might choose in the future. There are many different methods I may use depending on what seems most promising given your goals for therapy.

Cancer Therapists
How does cancer affect mental health?
A cancer diagnosis is a major life event that can significantly influence the mental health of any individual. Being diagnosed with cancer often introduces a sense of uncertainty about the future, which can cause clients to experience symptoms of anxiety, depression, and significant distress. Many cancer patients may also worry about the toll that their diagnosis may have on their family, their physical health, their job, and their financial situation. The compounding of such stressors can also decrease mental health in clients and may lead to additional symptoms that can influence mental health, such as sleeping difficulties or social withdrawal.

What is the best psychological therapy for cancer patients?
The best type of psychological therapy for cancer patients is highly dependent on the needs of the individual. The therapy type that a client benefits from may also depend on what stage of the cancer journey they are in. Recently diagnosed cancer patients, for instance, may benefit from therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which can help clients develop skills to manage the emotional distress that comes with a cancer diagnosis. Alternatively, cancer patients further along in their journey may benefit from therapies like Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) or other forms of mindfulness therapy to help manage symptoms or physical pain associated with treatment. Clients may also consider group therapy, which offers cancer patients an opportunity to receive support from other individuals dealing with a cancer diagnosis.

Are there any risks or drawbacks in going to therapy while dealing with cancer?
Although attending therapy while dealing with a cancer diagnosis can be helpful, one major concern for cancer patients can be the financial cost of seeking therapy. Many therapists are out-of-network, meaning they do not accept insurance, and thus clients are expected to pay the entirety of the session fee. Since many cancer patients may be out of work as a result of their diagnosis or cancer treatment regimen, the costs of therapy sessions can be substantial. Luckily, many cancer centers and local clinics may offer free or substantially reduced-cost counseling services to cancer patients and their families. In addition, cancer patients may be eligible for grants or other forms of funding from local agencies and nonprofits to seek therapy for their cancer diagnosis. Such opportunities can be very helpful for cancer patients, as they allow clients to obtain the benefits of therapy without the financial strain.

How long does cancer therapy typically last?
The length of cancer therapy depends on the needs of each client. In some cases, cancer patients may only require therapeutic support during the period following their initial diagnosis—to help manage the uncertainty and shock of a cancer diagnosis. In other cases, clients may choose to receive therapy throughout their treatment, and even following, their cancer journey. Pursuing therapy for a longer period of time can help clients develop a deeper relationship with their therapist and provide opportunity to process the challenges presented by cancer treatment, such as physical pain, and challenges associated with cancer survivorship, such as ongoing identity concerns, physical limitations, or relationship challenges.
