I enjoy working with individuals who seek to live happier, healthier lives and recognize that change can only happen by trying something new. Each of us has the power to create better lives for ourselves simply by changing the way we relate to ourselves. Many people never learned as children how to cope with stress and negative emotion. But this is a skill that can be learned in adulthood and that can pave the way for greater happiness throughout our lives. The ultimate goal is to prioritize your well-being and care for yourself by noticing and responding to your thoughts and feelings with compassion and validation.

In my journey as a therapist, I have found that working with individuals, couples, and families who have been impacted by addiction and/or trauma is my true passion. I believe our histories impact our current reality in both positive and negative ways. When we change our perspective of the past to make it less painful and find meaning from the pain, we recreate our narrative and move into a life worth living. I want my clients to believe they too can find that life worth living for themselves as they progress through therapy. Whether addressing trauma, addiction, both, or something more, I seek to help my clients find their purpose.

I understand that calling a therapist can be anxiety provoking. There is something inherently strange and nerve-wracking in talking to a stranger about your deepest fears and challenges. But this uneasiness does not exist in my office. I will not blankly stare at you as you delve into your personal history. You will feel heard and understood. During sessions, I engage and interact on an authentic, human level. I provide a safe place for you to reveal your troubles and will help you achieve whatever solutions and life changes you are seeking.

I believe that we each have the power within us to heal, change and grow the life we’ve always imagined. But no one does this alone. I value the power of therapeutic relationships to help us overcome fears and obstacles that get in the way; whether from trauma, symptoms of anxiety or depression, or difficult medical, societal or environmental circumstances. I have a Master's Degree in Social Work and completed a Post-Master's Fellowship at the Yale Child Study Center.

My intention in therapy is to provide you a safe space where you may gain insight and face challenges with greater ease and confidence. I help individuals who wish to move through shame, grief/loss, low self-esteem, relational conflict, anxiety, depression, or trauma. I see the therapeutic relationship as an active process where change can occur. Through this process, I have watched others build self support, identify unhelpful patterns, and connect more fully in their relationships. I offer you a chance to practice the change you seek in a safe supported space.

I am passionate about women's issues, body image, developing a healthy relationship with food, and promoting overall self-care and self-love.
My ideal client may present with a variety of issues, but ultimately they are motivated to seek change and implement strategies discussed in therapy while in-between sessions. They strive to be open and vulnerable in sessions and are looking to be an active and collaborative part of their therapeutic journey. I believe that we are all experts on our own experience, and a client who is willing to provide feedback on what is working and what isn't can assist in helping them tailor the therapy experience to their individual needs.

Women's Issues Therapists

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
