Hello and welcome! My name is Rachel Thorpe and I have worked with a diverse range of clients focusing on issues relating to relationships, ADHD, anxiety, body image and eating disorders, addiction and family dynamics. I have found one constant amongst all groups of people: connection. We all seek deeper and more meaningful connections with ourselves and others. My passion for therapy stems from the belief that we can heal through our ability to improve our internal and thus external connections.

Life challenges, past hurts, consuming worries, and loss can be so overwhelming at times that it can feel as though they are directing your life. It is during these times that we seek to access our inner resilience to open the door to healing and a pathway to a life of feeling present, connected, and fulfilled. Resilience-informed therapy works to strengthen your ability to process, adapt, grow, and flourish despite challenging circumstances. With enhanced resilience, we are able to enjoy more meaningful relationships, repair the narrative of past trauma and loss, and live with a sense of presence and purpose.

I work with women through their pregnancy and after birth who are dealing with anxiety, depression, mood disorders, career issues and are looking for a non judgement person to talk freely about what is going on with in your life personally. I working with women who are not planning pregnancy but are needing and wanting child education. I also enjoy working people who been in their career for a long time feel like your coworkers are against you are ready to quit. Before you turn in your resignation lets talk especially if you have years invested for retirement. I help birth workers find a safe space to explore their work trauma.

I look forward to using 25 years of counseling experience to help others through the life challenges they face. I've had the opportunity to work with professionals, groups, individuals, married couples and athletes at the University of Florida over the last 14 years. I enjoy culture and team building through group and individual development.

As a school counselor for 20+ years, I know the challenges of childhood/adolescence. Children are survivors of grief and trauma. They experience family changes and friendship worries. They may learn or socialize differently. Children sometimes feel anxious or depressed and their emotions may significantly impact behaviors. Often these challenges interfere with children's school success and stability at home. Through intentional care and child friendly therapeutic strategies, my goal is to help children thrive through it all. Utilizing play, art, games, and bibliotherapy, children can learn to feel safe sharing their thoughts, understanding their emotions and regulating their behaviors.

My client has a need to feel better about issues that they cannot resolve. My client wants to be educated about what they are feeling, and why they experience it. My client will learn, and apply managing techniques for coping, calming and self correcting their triggers to dysfunctional thoughts and actions.

I graduated with my Masters Degree from Fordham University in New York. I have experience providing therapy to children, teens, adults, families, and married couples. I have worked with teens and adults struggling with substance abuse, children who have migrated to the United States, and persons dealing with anxiety, depression, grief/loss, and trauma of various forms.

How's your relationship with yourself? Relationships can bring us joy, and connection, and opportunities to grow. We talk to friends and loved ones, spend time with them, and we care for them. How much time do you spend deepening your relationship with yourself? Do you pay attention to how you talk to yourself, how you spend time with yourself, how you care for your Self? It is my experience both personally and professionally that when we spend time working on our relationship with Self, not only do we become happier, and more peaceful internally- our external relationships with others improve as well.

I appreciate how difficult the decision can be to engage in therapy and believe in the power of having a safe and nonjudgmental space to explore the challenges life often brings. My areas of clinical expertise include crisis and trauma work. As a therapist, I am committed to being genuine and authentic with my clients. I have had the opportunity to work with a diverse range of clinical issues including grief, relational problems, self-injury, suicide, depression, anxiety, suicide loss, trauma, abuse, and other issues that can create disconnection to oneself and others.

I work with couples who are struggling with the blame game. When we get distressed we talk at our loved ones, rather than with them. It’s a sign of how alone and scared we feel, and how hungry we are for connection. Many of us simply miss our partner's emotional bids and don’t have a map for secure relationships. I help partners to listen with new awareness and to speak with more self-responsibility and tenderness.

Thirty years of experience providing clinical and forensic adult and pediatric neuropsychological assessement. This includes head injuries, developmental disoders, ADHD, LD, Asperger's. Forensic evaluations are conducted by retainer by defense (IME/CME) or by plaintiff attorney. Recognized as expert in state and federal court. Most of my psychotherapy is geared to longer term insight-oriented treatment and I enjoy working with physicians, professionals, officers and military.

I am a licensed clinical social worker. I began my career in the child dependency field and worked with children and families. I currently work in the hospital setting and my current role is the emergency room social worker. I have a variety of experience from newborns to older adults throughout my career. I have work with a wide variety of patient populations. As I progress in my career there is always still more to learn along the way. Many of the patients I see have experienced a traumatic event or recent life change.

I vow to always meet you where you are. If you're deep inside of a dark well of despair and pain, at a fork in the road & feeling unsure about where to go, or anything in between, my aim is to sit with you and help you navigate all the feelings- good, bad, and indifferent- that life has to offer. We all come to a point in our lives when talking to friends or family members or anonymous hotlines may not be enough, and we make the decision to start a therapeutic journey. I am here to walk that journey with you, to help you grow, find contentment, achieve wellness, and foster a healthy sense of self.

I realize that choosing a therapist is a very important decision, which is influenced by many factors. For this reason, I offer a free, fifteen-minute consultation to all potential clients. My goal is to support the people in my community with getting the services they need so, I am always happy to provide referrals based on individual needs. I enjoy working with all types of clients and have specialized training in Trauma, Depression, and Anxiety. I also specialize in Child Development and working with Families and teens who have experienced Trauma.

All CDS Family and Behavioral Health services are FREE of cost to families and youth. CDS provides free non-residential prevention counseling services and short-term residential stays for youth ages 6-17 (Non-residential) and 10-17 (residential) and their families. One of the main goals of our programs is prevention. To this, we try to address the problematic behaviors before they are beyond the control of the youth or the parent. Non Residential provides 12 weeks of free counseling and/or Case management for ungovernable or at risk youth while also working with the family system.
