I enjoy helping clients break free from anxiety and worry, explore patterns of behavior and relationships, and process traumatic experiences.
I am a client-centered therapist at heart, meaning that I believe a client is the "expert" of their own story. The best and most effective therapeutic relationships are equitable and based in mutual trust, respect, honesty, humor, and warmth. I offer a safe and nonjudgmental space in which to explore complex issues and become empowered to make changes.

This may show up in a variety of ways, such as, a sense of meaninglessness or feelings of being stuck in a dead-end job, relationship or destructive habit.
My approach is person-centered, affirming, and integrative. Although I incorporate a variety of therapeutic techniques, I do not adhere to a prescriptive or one-size-fits-all intervention style. At the heart of my approach is the belief that true presence and deep listening can be a powerful remedy.

People come to counseling because they want something to be different in their lives. Experience has taught me that I must create a safe and supportive setting. And I must be skillful and respectful in order for positive and lasting change to occur. In over thirty years of practice I have seen amazing growth and transformation in the clients with whom I have worked.

Hello, my name is Michal Katz, I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. My approach to therapy is strength-based. I believe that each client is the expert on their life and has the innate ability to heal themselves. I am here to support and help the client re-discover their natural and inherited inner wisdom. The client is never the problem, it is the environment and the conditioned or unhealthy defense mechanism that we learned along the way. Through reflection, analysis, and hands-on application of therapy, I have helped many clients develop new coping skills, insights, and capacity to resolve life challenges.

Yet so many people try to push through stress, relationship struggles, anxiety, depression, trauma, and identity questions without a safe place to unpack it all.
In my counseling approach, we explore your current challenges, discuss the impact those issues are having on your daily life and relationships, and identify new pathways to address them. Collaboratively, we will build insight, understand patterns that keep you stuck, strengthen coping skills, and create practical strategies that support meaningful change.

Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or facing challenges in relationships, family, or identity, I offer a personalized, insight-oriented approach.
You keep trying to push through but something keeps getting in the way. You're not sure if its anxiety, the way your brain is wired, or both. Maybe you've wondered whether ADHD, ASD, or something else explains why some things feel so much harder for you than they seem for others. Or, maybe you're a parent watching your child struggle and you want real answers, not just more "wait and see." You may feel frustrated by uncertainty or by past attempts that haven’t really helped. What you want most is support and clarity: to make sense of your experiences, understand yourself better, and get the right support.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
