The type of therapy I administer is a blend of cognitive behavioral and psychodynamic therapy, I like these two types of therapies best because there’s a lot of research supporting their effectiveness, and there’s a focus on where problems originate from and how thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and philosophies all work together to shape a person’s reality.
I am so glad you are reading this today because it means you might be considering reaching out for help. I was once in your shoes, needing help and things to change, and I remember feeling scared and confused about where to go or if reaching out would even help. Let me assure you, there is hope, and there is help, people like myself want to help and are trained on how to. Here’s a little information about me for you to consider. I am a licensed eligible counselor. My experience is with those dealing with eating disorder, substance abuse, depression, trauma, dual diagnosis, and more.

Finding a place where you can be seen and fully accepted for who you are is what we all want in this life. Too often, we don't experience that. We can feel that rejection from our past, parents, social circles, church, as a new mom, work, and so many areas of our lives. As a licensed therapist (and just fellow human), my deepest desire is for you never to feel that way in my therapy space. You matter here, and you are worthy.

Maybe you feel down, annoyed, or anxious. Perhaps you avoid, give in, or act out. Maybe it’s hard to connect to others or to yourself. Those experiences are deeply rooted in how the big people around you acted when you were small. The patterns can be powerfully updated through therapy. In therapy, you can be known, accompanied, and valued. The relationship is protected and safe. It makes room for you and challenges you to connect to and make room for another. Therapy alleviates aloneness, lessens emotional pain, and connects you to your authentic self- that is, what the hell you really think, feel, and care about.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
