From anxiety to depression,
OCD
, stress, low self-esteem/confident, communications issues, unstable relationships, blended families and identity issues, my ability to meet the client where they are and explore where they want to be is what has helped me be successful over the years.
I am passionate about helping children, teens, and young adults resolve anxious and depressive feelings that may keep them from living their best life. Even at a young age, we all experience situations that leave us wondering if we will ever be happy again. This can be devastating for the individual experiencing these symptoms and if not addressed early on, it can have long term effects into adult life. As a mental health counselor, I have had the pleasure of helping countless individuals overcome these feelings and get back to living a quality of life that was once unimaginable.

As a counselor, my role is to empower you, as the client, by applying methods that work best for your situation. A taylored approach is key, and although I am predominately there to gently guide you through the entire process, I feel it is important for me to bring awareness to resistance and incongruance when I feel it is a benefit. Together we can make progress towards your goals as long as you're willing to work hard both in and out of our sessions.

After trauma, life can feel like it is spiraling out of control and it feels overwhelming to deal with. It becomes difficult and hard to cope with uneasy thoughts & emotions. I believe each and every person would benefit from therapy. It is important to be able to understand our own emotions and to be able to openly communicate those with others in our lives. When we are unable to understand those emotions, it can become difficult to function in our daily lives. With therapy, you can learn how to regulate these areas in a healthier way through a compassionate approach to healing.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists
How long does OCD treatment take?
OCD is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.
What happens if OCD is not treated?
Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.
Are there medications for OCD?
Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.
Can OCD come back after treatment?
Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
