I believe therapy is a collaborative process while forming a therapeutic relationship to identify goals and objectives.
For some, making an appointment with a therapist is like scheduling an annual physical; for others, it can be overwhelming. Here are some reasons my clients came to see me: work life is overwhelming, toxic relationship , panic attacks, disordered relationship with food, prolonged sadness, excessive worry, feeling hopeless, irritability, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, poor sleep, codependency, decreased sex drive, and decreased life satisfaction.

As people, we have a deep need to be understood, and one of the most profound ways to explore and experience this is in a safe and affirming therapeutic relationship . As a therapist, I work with individuals using an eclectic and holistic approach, walking alongside each individual to identify their needs and put their inner experience at the center, engaging both mind and body, so that barriers to their well-being can be lifted. In my practice, I look to be responsive, collaborative, and affirmative when working with folks' intersecting identities and how those identities show up within the therapeutic relationship .

Maybe we should talk. We all face challenges; sometimes we know exactly what we need to do and seem to handle them well. Then there are other times when all that we feel is overwhelmed. I believe solution lies around the corner; that an exploration of your options will enable you to feel in charge once again. I value working with people of all ages, individually or within their relationships or families. I offer intensive therapeutic support for couples who wish to strengthen their relationships or who recognize they're heading for divorce. Give me a call; we'll talk.

Whether you have difficulty accepting self, have marital or partner problems, parental discord, anxiety about work or retirement , you will find in therapy rewarding dividends for life.
After “curing” most of Washington DC except Congress, I moved to Fort Myers, Florida. With 24 years of private practice experience I still love this work. I’m an author and provide tv interviews upon request. Humor is an essential part of my life and my practice. Humor is an integral part of grieving, healing, recovery and problem-solving. I, therefore incorporate it into my treatment. There are a myriad of issues for which you may be seeking help. Frequently they involve problematic relationships, or relationships with ourselves. To self most of us are unforgiving and punishing. This is common and treatable.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
