Do you ever feel stuck or paralyzed by the stories your mind tells you? Do you ever feel weighed down by hopelessness or trapped in your anxiety? Do you often find yourself at the mercy of a harsh and critical inner voice? The human mind is a masterful storyteller and these stories can lead us down dark and painful paths. They are often filled with “what ifs” and “shoulds” that keep us stuck in the past or catastrophizing about the future. Folks often seek out therapy when they feel stuck in life, are in crisis, or feel their emotions are becoming too much to cope with. They want a change but are unsure how to go about it.

I’m also a cisgender Afro Caribbean
woman
, an INFJ, a mother, a sister a happy wife, and a member of the human race – just like you! More specifically, I am someone who lends an ear, perspective, encouragement, and support to those who feel alone in their pain.
There are so many messages that you’ve probably lived with growing up that don’t work for you anymore. Messages that make it hard to be present, to get things done, or make you feel like you're in "survival mode". Maybe you’re expected to move on from some hard times – or hard losses. Or maybe you’ve always had to be the “Perfect One”, the “Black Sheep” or the “Silent One” in your family. But there’s so much more to you than your struggles or the labels that have been placed on you. You don't have to live life feeling overwhelmed with negative thoughts, numbness, or expectations every day. You deserve to live authentically.

You're the "go to"
woman
for everyone in your life. On paper, it looks like you've got it all together, but inside you're on a downward spiral. The stress and anxiety of giving, caring, or catering to others has become so overwhelming that it's effecting your mental, physical, & spiritual health. You may not be sure how to regain control of your own body and mind and if you do, you have no idea (or energy) where to begin. It isn't easy for you to reach out for help, but you know something needs to change. Your life depends on it.

As an African Black
woman
licensed mental health counselor.
Are you saying this isn’t working for me anymore, I don’t like who I have become. No one gets me. Listen, I have been there. I was depressed, angry and felt alone. It wasn’t until I attended therapy myself that I was able to feel better. I get it. Sometimes, we need to hear from a therapist that’s been there and gets us- where we have been. You are not alone. I have worked in the Faith base community for over 20 years. My ideal clients are, adults, and pastors’ wives who are struggling with self-worth, anxiety, depression, trauma, and premarital issues and want to improve their mental health.

Hey, haven't we met before? You’re the
woman
who wants to feel Empowered, Radiant, Strong.
REMOTE VIDEO SESSIONS NOW AVAILABLE! Everyone thinks you are fine, but you go to work and no one can tell that you’re struggling inside. You feel depressed, anxious, worn down. All you want to do is sleep and shut out the world. The self-contempt, criticism, and doubt are real, and they are relentless. You want to reach out for help but feel guilty, even selfish. By putting everyone else at the top of your list, you’ve neglected and dishonored yourself. What you really want is to feel a sense of worth, like you belong, like you have something to contribute to this vast world.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
