My ideal clients are adults who feel weighed down by past experiences and are ready to work through the impact of trauma on their lives and relationships. Many feel stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected, but want meaningful change. I work with individuals open to a collaborative, supportive process of self-exploration. My goal is to provide a safe, nonjudgmental space to build insight, develop healthier patterns, and move forward with greater confidence, clarity, and a renewed sense of purpose.

I also enjoy supporting those navigating issues related to family and children (including perinatal mental health).
Something tipped the scale – a crisis, life transition, or enough of the same thing. You’ve tried to get through on your own in healthy and unhealthy ways, and now, you're ready for something different. While your story is your own, my clients find comfort in having an experienced therapist support them in navigating the themes, feelings, and difficulties that are more common than they ever knew. It’s less lonely that way. I often use EMDR to help clients reprocess difficult or traumatic experiences, to find relief from symptoms, feelings, and thoughts about themselves, that have been troubling them recently or for years.

Therapy should provide a safe, nonjudgmental relationship through which to explore those parts of you that may make you feel ashamed or afraid, to develop meaningful insights, and to discover your strengths. I have extensive experience working with people seeking to overcome traumatic life events - sexual violations, abuse, neglect, extreme acts of violence - but have found that, in the end, it can sometimes be the seemingly small, overlooked wounds that take longest to heal. No matter how stuck and hopeless you may feel, you have the power to take control and embrace the person you'd like to be.

As a mother of 3 and someone who personally struggled with Depression, OCD and Anxiety postpartum, my ideal client would be a mother struggling with any type of mood disorder either during pregnancy or postpartum.
I can be that safe space to process all of the difficult adjustments/changes in life. I value holding space for others during these vulnerable times in life when it can feel very isolating. We will utilize CBT techniques to learn more positive ways of thinking while challenge negative thoughts. We will also learn new ways to care for and nourish yourself.

Therapy is a journey for every individual. I see my clients as captains while I am their navigator, helping them reach their destination through a process called change. Obstacles are present in all journeys, but the barriers in each client’s life are so uniquely challenging that they often feel “stuck” or unable to leave the cycle that is creating the problem. As a therapist, I aim to focus on specific emotions and feelings while listening to language and meaning. During sessions, I relate what my client says about their problem to the content of our discussion then use systems theory to construct thoughts about their problems.

What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?
The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.

When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?
Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.

How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?
A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviors. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.

Are there specific medications for postpartum depression?
In 2019, the FDA approved the first medication designed to treat postpartum depression. The medication is called brexanolone and is delivered intravenously by a medical professional over the course of a few days. However, typical antidepressants, which are more accessible, can also treat postpartum depression. The disorder is often best treated through a combination of medication and therapy.
