I became a therapist to help people explore their stories with care, curiosity, and compassion—especially those who’ve felt unseen or unheard in traditional mental health settings. As a first-generation South Asian American woman and Queens native, I’m deeply committed to providing culturally responsive therapy, including services in Bangla. My experience spans community mental health and outpatient settings, supporting individuals facing challenges such as trauma, anxiety, depression, and identity-based stress. I work from a trauma-informed, whole-person care approach that centers on safety, resilience, and emotional growth.

My passion for the helping profession began when I was in high school where I became a peer counselor. Being an active listener and offering support to others was something that came natural to me. I have over 25 yrs. experience working with youth, young adults, adults and military families addressing issues such as anxiety, depression, anger management, self-esteem, suicidality, grief and loss, family conflict, parenting skills, emotion regulation, self-harm, and trauma. I have practiced in various settings such as schools, community and inpatient facilities, providing individual, family and group therapy.

I understand how frustrating it can be to feel stuck, overwhelmed, & uncertain about how to move forward in life. We often get stuck in old patterns, holding us back in life from reaching our full potential & causing disconnection from ourselves & others. If you are looking for a space where you can reflect, feel supported, gain clarity, & learn pragmatic tools for growth, then I think I might be able to help! I’m interested in working with clients who are curious about learning more about who they are & what they want. They are ready to take on the serious challenge of taking the next steps forward in their lives.

Does your mind feel scattered, busy, or hard to slow down? You may find yourself overthinking, feeling mentally exhausted, or stuck in cycles of anxiety and overwhelm. Over time, it can start to impact your relationships, work, and how you feel about yourself. Many of the people I work with are used to holding a lot together on the outside while struggling internally. They’re ready to feel more in control of their thoughts, less overwhelmed day to day, and begin to work through past experiences that still feel unresolved.

I also use Emotional Freedom Technique ( EFT), aka tapping.
Are you tired of feeling as though you are not in charge of what’s happening in your life…that everything that happens is controlled by someone or something else? I’m Dr. Michael Sue Jenefsky, and I am here to help you overcome emotional pain, reclaim your power, and live life on your own terms. After more than 20 years of working to support survivors of emotional, physical, or sexual abuse, I’ve discovered that trauma leaves traces that remain long after the first crisis occurs. That’s how it was for me until I found the right help to guide me on my healing journey. I want to be that help for you.

Emotionally Focused Therapists
Who is emotionally focused therapy for?
Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?
People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?
Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?
EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
