I specialize in Cognitive Behavior Therapy for OCD & anxiety. This straight-forward approach helps you identify triggers (such as negative intrusive thoughts or stressful situations) which create discomfort. This anxiety leads to behaviors such as avoidance or compulsions. CBT helps you break this self-defeating cycle by reducing ruminative thinking and learning anxiety-tolerating techniques. In addition, I help you learn healthier coping strategies to be more effective interpersonally, more efficient with your time, appropriately regulate mood swings, tolerate painful emotions and decrease self-sabotaging behaviors.
Something doesn’t feel right. You can't remember the last time you felt good about yourself. Every day you wake up and go through the motions, but still feel unhappy, alone, and unsure. You have made it this far, but it feels like you lost sight of who you are and what you want somewhere along the way. You feel that it's time to make a change, but you don't know where to begin. You want to fix the problems you have with your friends, your partner, your family or with yourself, but it seems too overwhelming. You decided to look for help.
I hope that I can be a guide in your journey towards meaningful & lasting transformation! I’m a trilingual Licensed Psychologist (English/Spanish/Portuguese) and adhere to a holistic client-centered approach to mental health care, treating each person as a whole: Body, Mind & Spirit. I strive to offer clients the best level of care by fostering a genuine and compassionate therapeutic alliance. Learning to cope with life in healthier ways is a great and necessary start. And, what most people I've worked with truly desire is a new life. A life that fundamentally feels different. A life where they are in charge of how they feel and function, and not their - unconscious perception, not the emotional darkness connected to their past, not their environment, not their genetic predisposition, and not the limiting belief system underlying these areas. Individuals gain the necessary neuroscience-back insights, tools, and practices to create the new wiring that leads to a new life.
I provide support and guidance to people who want to reduce their stress, struggle and reactivity so that they can be their best selves in life and in relationship with themselves and with others. I emphasize holistic approaches that increase self-awareness and change unhelpful habits. Depending on your needs and goals, our work together is likely to uncover old, limiting patterns and beliefs and to involve a compassionate exploration and reworking of these things. This collaborative process occurs within a framework of mindfulness, psychodynamic psychology, and cognitive-behavioral therapy. I firmly believe in a person's innate ability for healing and change.
It is inevitable that each one of us faces adversity. Have you found it difficult to make changes, heal or find meaning on your own? Together we can discover new insights into your struggles and implement sustainable tools to forge new paths and patterns. I tailor strategies aligning with your values, beliefs and culture. I consider the impact of family, environment, systemic inequalities, historical context and sociopolitics on your current experiences. Throughout our work together, I encourage your questions and feedback to ensure that you are getting what you need!

Excellent psychotherapy offers a deep appreciation for an individual's thoughts, emotions and wishes. I try to establish a collaborative and interactive relationship with my clients. We work on trying to resolve areas of immediate distress as well as trying to understand how the past may be effecting your current situation. Regardless of what brings a person to therapy-a desire for deeper understanding of self, alleviation of symptoms is the main focus. I see a wide range of clients- including children and families, college students and adults. I have two broad areas of clinical practice.
I help patients live freer, more fulfilling lives and believe in the work I do to get patients there. I have a Bachelor's in Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania, a Master's in Social Work from New York University and a Certificate in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy from the Contemporary Freudian Society. Prior to moving back home to Miami, I practiced in New York City for several years.
As a psychologist I have several goals in therapy. I begin by developing a relationship with my patients, with the understanding that I am an expert in my field, but that the patient is the expert on themselves. I believe in educating my patients and empowering them to take charge of their lives and take responsibility for improving their situation. I teach coping skills, largely using cognitive behavioral techniques and by having patients practice by doing "homework". In addition, I explore a patient's history and past relationships, but only after first managing their distress in the moment.
