I'm a bilingual/bi-cultural (English/ Spanish) counselor with 25 years of experience working with individuals, groups, and families addressing life challenges: depression, anxiety, anger management, panic disorder, trauma, PTSD, career challenges, parenting difficulties, chronic low self-esteem, family relations and relationship difficulties. Because therapy should not last a life time, we address issues outside your awareness which interfere with your ability to succeed in life. Then, we focus in building your capacity to address life with a healthier approach. I bring a wealth of experience and knowledge acquired through my practice, teaching at various universities and numerous trainings including intercultural knowledge.

Areas of specialization include mood and anxiety disorders, and couples psychotherapy.
As a licensed clinical psychologist, I work with adults (18+) who are experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety, and interpersonal conflict. Although therapy is a highly individualized process, my goal is to offer a reflective space where you may understand your experience, recognize influences, and explore the ways in which you relate to yourself and others. My therapeutic approach is insight-oriented and relational, and aims to support your ability to identify and modulate emotional states, recognize interpersonal and behavioral patterns, and develop more effective coping skills.

Excellent psychotherapy offers a deep appreciation for an individual's thoughts, emotions and wishes. I try to establish a collaborative and interactive relationship with my clients. We work on trying to resolve areas of immediate distress as well as trying to understand how the past may be effecting your current situation. Regardless of what brings a person to therapy-a desire for deeper understanding of self, alleviation of symptoms is the main focus. I see a wide range of clients- including children and families, college students and adults. I have two broad areas of clinical practice.

My approach encompasses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Interpersonal Psychotherapy, and Gottman Couples Therapy.
Each day goes by and you're feeling more and more overwhelmed. You're holding it together in front of everyone because you don't feel they would understand. Maybe you just got out of a long-term relationship or you're in a relationship you feel is stagnant. You may feel disconnected from yourself and those who surround you. You want nothing more than to regain your confidence and self esteem so you don't have to pretend anymore. Our work together will encompass finding purpose by transforming fear into goals that will encourage growth.

Menendez is a licensed psychologist who treats individuals, couples and families.
Psychotherapy can help you feel better. Psychotherapy can reduce your symptoms and increase your capacity to deal with future hardships and struggles in your life. Counseling can give you a different perspective on your thoughts and feelings concerning your hardships and/or confusion. This can lead to significant change in the way you handle or manage your problems; thus increasing satisfaction within yourself and with the most important people in your life. It begins by exploring your problems with an open and collaborative attitude in an environment where your thoughts and feelings can be safely explored.

I emphasize the therapeutic relationship as the foundation of the therapy and I work to develop feelings of safety, trust, and respect.
I am a licensed psychologist and psychoanalyst specializing in adult individual and couple psychotherapy. In therapy I focus on developing a deeper understanding of you and the role of your unconscious conflicts in the difficulties you are having. Discovering how and why you may be unconsciously contributing to your difficulties is tremendously helpful in freeing you to change. We all unintentionally and unconsciously contribute to our obstacles. Finding out exactly how, when, and why you may inadvertently undermine yourself frees you to change in deep and powerful ways. It can also help with difficult problems that nothing else has helped.

I believe sex can be a healing act. We can enjoy great orgasmic sex not only at a physical level but at a spiritual level. I love working with clients who want to take sex to the next level. Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
