I am an EMDRIA approved EMDR therapist in training and participate on a monthly EMDR consulting team.
Cherie is the owner of Healing Wounds Healthcare (HWHC), a trauma-sensitive private practice that offers both mental health counseling and emotional support coaching. Cherie and HWHC therapists believe trauma is at the heart of most mental health concerns. Trauma is an emotional wound that can cause intense physical and psychological distress. Trauma survivors often feel alone and may feel like they are “damaged goods" - like hope is beyond reach. We believe healing is possible. Our mission is to provide clients with trauma-sensitive care from beginning to end, and our heart is to walk with you through your wellness journey.

Although my style focuses on Cognitive Behavioral therapy, I also incorporate other modalities such as EMDR, Play Therapy and Art as Therapy.
I believe that the relationship between therapist and client is an essential part of the healing process. To foster the therapeutic relationship I incorporate trust, respect, and authenticity into my work. I provide an open, comfortable, and non-judgmental environment where my clients can feel at ease. My goal for my clients is two-fold. In the short term, I'd like to help clients get some relief and to ease some of the symptoms they may be experiencing. In the longer term, I hope to get to the bottom of the feelings, concerns and dilemmas that cause such symptoms.

I also use EMDR to treat anxiety and PTSD symptoms.
I worked as a DBT skills trainer and integrate tools into session- as a therapist I want to do much more than listen- I want to help you learn to manage what is going on in your life and learn to feel good about yourself. Sometimes you are doing the work but I have to be equally invested.

I have experience with working with relational trauma and have been trained in EMDR, Gottman Couples's Therapy, and Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples.
Do you find yourself getting caught up in the past? Does it seem like you can't move forward from things that have happened or decisions you have made? Is this reoccurring theme telling you that you are not good enough or not important? Do you find yourself asking questions in your marriage like, does this person really have my back, or will this person be there for me no matter what? These are a few of the common themes that I hear over and over in my office. There is hope!

My EMDR certification is recognized by the national agency, EMDRIA where I continue to advance my credentials.
You are already perfect, whole, and complete now, as you are. You are already worthy, enough, and you matter. Going for therapy won’t negate any of that. Yet, it will help you to see, feel, and truly know it more deeply. Therapy doesn’t give you any more value; as you already innately 100% have it; just for existing here on earth. Yet, it may inspire you to act more from a valued space and to get to see those actions fruit. Therapy or I, won’t do the work for you. Yet, it could crystallize your clarity, understanding, and motivation, to work to supersede and excel towards your true goals, desires, and full potential, yourself.

I am trained in EMDR to treat trauma and provide ERP and ACT for OCD/ruminating behaviors
Anxiety, anger, and stress can be overwhelming. Becoming irritable, feeling as if you are 'snapping', problems sleeping, worrying and overthinking... just a few of the symptoms that you may be living with causing you to feel hopeless and 'stuck'. Stress and anxiety may have gotten to the point to where you don't even feel like yourself anymore. You may have even experienced a panic attack with no idea what led to it. You may be stuck in a cycle of lashing out at those closest to you and then feeling guilty... only making the anxiety worse.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
