As a psychologist in Clearwater for over 40 years, I bring experience, wisdom, and stability to the therapeutic process. I have been happily married for 48 years and personally know the importance of effective communication and compromise in relationships. I value your time. It is rare for someone to wait more than 10 minutes. With few exceptions, I will conclude the initial session with my impressions, and I will suggest a treatment plan focused on solutions. I am direct and action oriented with a focus on changing behavior and negative thoughts within a supportive
relationship
.

Feeling anxious about your
relationship
? Does it feel like the two of you are living parallel lives? Are you asking "What has happened to us?" We get so busy building our dreams, making sacrifices to advance our careers, balancing work & family commitments; that we grow apart, instead of closer together. Sometimes resentment, feelings of neglect or relational trauma seem to sneak back in, just when you thought it was resolved. But if you can't talk about it, without it blowing up, how do you make it better? You're committed, but lifetime of just "existing" without physical & emotional intimacy is NOT what you want.

I work with teens & adult clients with a variety of concerns, including anxiety, depression, self-esteem & interpersonal/
relationship
issues.
With the pressures we face on a daily basis, it can be hard to feel like we are doing more than just treading water. Whether it’s conflict at home, stress and issues with friends or relationships, crazy high anxiety, feeling depressed or numb, or just wanting to feel more content with life, it is never easy to feel like you have to deal with it all by yourself. We can work together to explore those issues in a comfortable, supportive environment, determine your goals for yourself and together create ways to manage the stress, anxiety or overall crappy feelings keeping you from enjoying life.

"There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you." - Maya Angelou. A strong therapeutic
relationship
is the foundation for empowering healthy change. When you tell your story, I will do what I can to help you feel heard and understood. Clients often tell me that they feel supported as well as challenged in a nonjudgmental way. Together, we will be looking at patterns that may be keeping you stuck. I will encourage you to take risks and change those patterns. Profound changes can happen in a short period of time.

Everyone needs a
relationship
that is neutral to assist in walking them through parts of life that may be uncomfortable or just needs to change.
I worked in the field since 2004. I enjoy building relationships with each family member, working with behavior problems in-home or at school, working with issues related to being a new mother or father, and traumatic experiences. To restore strained relationships can be both very powerful and empowering. To reprocess trauma in the brain can start the healing process in order to move forward with life. The people that I have provided therapy to ranged in age from 2 years old up through mature adults.

Although support and guidance can come in many forms, the therapeutic
relationship
is unique.
Are you ready to move through life making decisions in alignment with your deepest values and live more peacefully and authentically? So many of us have been through traumatic life experiences that cause us to mal-adapt simply to survive. However, over time, our old survival mechanisms begin to hurt more than help. We can forget or not know how to set healthy boundaries in our relationships. We can neglect our self and overextend ourselves emotionally, mentally, and physically. Therapy can help you uncover your self and remove any barriers to living life intentionally!

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
