I specialize in a wide range of areas including medical issues, physical health, LGBTQIA+ support, anger management, ADHD, dissociative disorders, military and veteran support, traumatic brain injury, life transitions, gender identity, grief and bereavement, sex and intimacy issues, suicidal ideation and self-harming, spirituality, PTSD, family relationships
Hello, my name is Alan Romano. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree, and I have been providing therapy to individuals, couples, and groups for over four years in South Florida. I love the work that I do because I get to sit in a room with another human and remember what it means to be human together. Embodiment brings pain, and in our culture, we have yet to evolve, or possibly have devolved, into a conditioned state of not being allowed to share our pain with the world.

Hi, I'm Ryan! If you're feeling overwhelmed, uncertain, or alone... I see you. Most of us are these days. Seeking help is hard and incredibly brave. I've never lost appreciation for the vulnerability and trust it takes to reach out for help. Life can be so hard sometimes, but you don't have to go through it alone. Whether you're dealing with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, or just want to get back to feeling like yourself again, I can help. If trauma, loss, or illness have brought you here for support, I am highly experienced in those areas as well.

I am working with both adolescents and adults. My theoretical orientation to counseling and psychotherapy is rooted in the philosophy of a humanistic-existential approach to human functioning. I use the tenets of individual responsibility to choice and decision-making and apply them within a cognitive-behavioral perspective (CBT) to counseling and clinical work. I consider myself a generalist with specialty training in cognitive rehabilitation, vocational/career counseling, as well as psychoeducational testing and other evaluations, such as pre-surgical evaluations (e.g., for bariatric procedures).

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Therapists

When should someone seek treatment for a traumatic brain injury?

People should seek a diagnosis and treatment after a head injury, especially if they were unconscious, and an early diagnosis can lead to a better recovery. Signs of a concussion include headaches, nausea or vomiting, exhaustion, dizziness, vision problems, sensitivity to light and sound, problems with attention and memory, brain fog, unusual irritability or sadness, and unusual sleep patterns.

What’s the most common treatment for a traumatic brain injury?

Treatment for a traumatic brain injury will be different depending on the severity of the problem. For mild injuries, treatment may involve rest and over-the-counter pain or headache medication. For moderate or severe injuries, treatment may involve stabilization, medication, and rehabilitative therapies such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, cognitive therapy, and counseling.

How long does it take to recover from traumatic brain injury?

The recovery time for a traumatic brain injury depends on the individual and the severity and nature of the injury; the length of time spent unconscious is often an indicator of severity. Recovery time for mild injuries may be a week or two while recovery time for more severe injuries may be six months to two years. Research suggests that the vast majority of recovery occurs in the first two years after an injury; recovery after that time frame is less certain.

What if a traumatic brain injury is left untreated?

If a traumatic brain injury is left untreated, it can lead to long-term physical and mental health problems. Physical problems may include dizziness, headaches, vision, healing, or speech loss, and an elevated risk of dementia. Psychological problems may include impairments of memory, judgment, and decision-making, depression, aggression, poor impulse control, and personality changes.
