If you answered yes to any of these questions you owe it to yourself to find a safe space to start healing. My goal as a clinician is to provide my clients with “safe spaces” to address every day issues that are affecting their quality of life.

Hello, my name is Alan Romano. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree, and I have been providing therapy to individuals, couples, and groups for over four years in South Florida. I love the work that I do because I get to sit in a room with another human and remember what it means to be human together. Embodiment brings pain, and in our culture, we have yet to evolve, or possibly have devolved, into a conditioned state of not being allowed to share our pain with the world.

Life can change suddenly, leaving you feeling unstable and weighed down by uncertainty and self-doubt. You may be trying to push through, focusing on school, work, or hobbies, hoping these feelings will fade, but it’s becoming harder to ignore. The people in your life may notice something is off, and you might start questioning if you were ever truly confident or clearheaded. The cost of doing nothing only deepens these struggles.

Formerly from Canada, I have made my home for the last twenty-four years in Florida, practicing
Social Work for twenty-three of those years. My passion for therapy stems from growing up and
advocating for a mother who had Schizophrenia, a disease that is often feared and stigmatized
by society. Unfortunately, my family too has been touched by the disease of addiction, mental
illness and suicide. Through my work, I am committed to helping people overcome addictions
to alcohol and drugs, depression, anxiety, and other stresses that affect all of us at some time in
our lives.

Hello and welcome! I’m not a conventional therapist! Clients have told me they appreciate my authenticity, sarcasm and relatability, and I often use humor and pop culture references when appropriate as I feel this helps diffuse difficult topics and often enhances the therapeutic relationship. I tailor my work with clients to each client's specific needs and personality style.
Couples therapy- Are you feeling stuck in your relationship? Have one or both of you tossed around the dreaded D-word (divorce)?

Gottman Method Therapists
How does the Gottman method work?
One of the core doctrines of the Gottman method is that negative emotions hurt relationships about five times more than positive emotions help them. Thus, couples require five times more positive interactions than negative interactions with each other. The therapist will guide clients on how to improve communication and understanding of each other to manage conflict and have their emotional needs met. The therapist will also advise couples on how to repair relations with each other when conflict arises, and therefore avoid lasting damage.
Is the Gottman method evidence-based?
Yes, this method is an evidence-based approach to couples therapy. The method is based on more than 40 years of research by Drs. John and Julie Gottman, the psychologists who developed the method. The Gottmans analyzed decades of data to draw conclusions about what types of interactions are likely to lead to specific results, and which interventions are most likely to lead to success. Studies have found that this approach leads to improvements in relationship satisfaction, intimacy, communication skills, and a lower rate of divorce.
How long does the Gottman method take?
The duration of treatment depends on the specific challenges clients face. Sessions are typically 60 to 90 minutes long, and an average course of treatment is around 10 sessions. In some cases, such as for couples dealing with a critical problem, the therapist will suggest an intensive course of treatment, with daily sessions over the first two to four days. Treatment is complete when the couple is satisfied and has met the goals they’ve set, and when the therapist believes they have the skills to continue on their own.
Is the Gottman method effective?
Through the Gottman method, couples can achieve changes that are real and sustainable. This treatment has been used for more than 40 years; the method is supported by empirical research, including randomized controlled trials that have demonstrated effectiveness in improving relationship outcomes for couples. Like any talk therapy, success or failure depends in large part on how committed the clients are to making positive changes and working toward results.
