Life and relationships can feel overwhelming when communication breaks down, emotions feel intense, or familiar patterns keep repeating. You may be navigating conflict with a partner, tension within your family, or personal challenges that affect how you connect with yourself and others. Many people come to therapy feeling stuck, disconnected, or weighed down by past experiences, seeking relief, clarity, and healthier ways of engaging with life and the people around them. In therapy, we focus on patterns behind emotions, reactions, and interactions, and explore healthier ways to respond.

I also believe that these stories, experiences, and perspectives play a significant role in shaping how we deal with the many challenges that life places in our path. I am confident that with empathy & support, everyone has the ability to become the person who they are meant to be.

I think of my work as a way of helping patients make friends with themselves. I believe that we torture ourselves by holding onto memories that are painful. We play endless "tape recordings" in our minds that create anxiety, depression or compulsive behaviors. We repeat destructive patterns in our relationships which lead to isolation, shame, regret and guilt. Our choices in life become narrow and limited. Keeping unpleasant feelings at bay becomes our priority thus sapping us of energy. With the release of that energy prosperity can develop in all areas of life.

You’re doing everything right—but something still isn’t working. My clients are high-functioning adults who feel stuck in patterns they can’t fully explain. They’re often used to holding it together, figuring things out on their own, and pushing through—but it’s not working the way it used to. They come in wanting clarity, relief, and a different way forward. I help by slowing things down, making sense of what feels confusing, and creating a space where you can think clearly, feel more like yourself, and begin making changes that actually last.

FAQ - Teenage and Adolescent Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
