Is there some thought, idea, or belief that you carry around, maybe for as long as you can remember, that causes you to feel that having a happier life is for others but not you? You may have resigned yourself to this feeling and just "get through" each day. Maybe you've seen a therapist before and it didn"t seem to help. My practice is designed to help you realize that we are all hard wired to learn how to have what we want out of our lives. We all have the internal resources to make our lives better.
I have been a practicing psychotherapist for over thirty years. My practice consists primarily of individuals (adults and adolescents) dealing with depression, anxiety, loss and low self-esteem. I also work with couples and families struggling with relationship and transition issues.
Hello and thanks for checking out my profile! I believe all human behavior is driven by our thoughts and feelings, and our ability to cope with our emotions. My goal is to work with you to produce positive and sustainable changes which will lead to a more content and fulfilling life. I focus on the 'here and now', because unfortunately, we cannot change the past, but we can control what we do today and moving forward. My philosophy of therapy allows you to express yourself in a non- judgmental, unbiased, confidential environment and walk out feeling more mindful, aware, knowledgeable and empowered.

I work primarily with the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual community but not exclusively.. The ideal GLB client is seeking gay affirmative clinical approaches to the therapy. Clients desire to explore what is keeping them from maximizing their potential as a person Client recognizes a need to examine oppressive societal structures that have impacted their lives and relating. The ideal client is not looking for a 'quick fix'. Client acknowledges therapy takes time for growth. Bisexual clients will be looking for support not judgement from their therapist. Heterosexual clients will want a therapist who is empathic t and is motivated to attenuate conflict in their lives.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Sex Therapist. I established a private psychotherapy practice in Sarasota 26 years ago and I am a co-owner of Alliance Counseling Services, a faith based counseling office. By faith based we are saying we provide emotional and spiritual care for the whole person honoring and respecting people of all religious/spiritual traditions. All people are welcome here. Included in my professional philosophy of sex therapy is the goal of incorporating a sex positive/sexually liberating approach with our clients' religious and spiritual beliefs; that the two are not mutually exclusive.
Approval seeking, bad relationships and addictions keep us from living out our true potential, but they're not the real problem. Many practitioners provide a long list of conditions, diagnoses and symptoms they treat. Frankly, I'm not all that interested in symptoms: I want to help you figure out why you've been using the same strategies for years and expecting different results. If you want to stop waking up every morning and hoping that somehow - today - your life is somehow going to be different, you've got to DO something different.
Are you struggling with anxiety, depression or replaying problems from the past? Therapy can be an excellent way of working through and moving on from the difficulties of life. I prefer to use an eclectic approach, tailored to each client, that helps to heal the symptoms and behaviors that interfere with having a healthy and successful life.
Life is to short to settle for bad relationships, suffer from low self esteem, anxiety, addictions or depression. But often, finding the "right" therapist" to help you resolve these issues, can leave you feeling like you are looking for a needle in a haystack. I have been told that I have a gift of helping others. It is my sincere desire to help you get the results you desire. By helping you clarify your goals, and then by keeping each session focused on steps toward that goal, you can achieve the change you are looking for. My style and approach to therapy is never a "one size fits all" but will be customized to fit your needs.
Life is difficult, and sometimes despite our best efforts we still feel overwhelmed. The therapeutic process can be a catalyst for change and through this process, with compassion, understanding, non-judgment, and solution focus, I will meet you where you are and work with you to help you move toward freedom and a renewed sense of self.
Let me help you make peace with your mind and heart. Stop allowing all those negative, self-deprecating thoughts and beliefs control you. Together we can confront those lies empowering you to tap in to your inner strength and find greater meaning and purpose in life. We all need to experience - love, safety, honesty and beauty. Whether or not you're confronting old demons or facing life changes that have left you feeling, depressed, anxious, lonely and confused, it is never too late. I will encourage and support you through this process - physical, emotional and spiritual balance is within reach.
My approach to counseling is framed around two perspectives. The first is that each individual knows themselves best. Because of that belief I am available to help individuals achieve the change they seek based on an understanding that each person may just need some guidance to access the knowledge they already have inside of them. The second perspective involves not dwelling on the origins of problems. Knowing the roots of a problem doesn't mean that the effects of a problem suddenly disappear. I often rely on a solutions focused approach rather than a problem centric focus with helping individuals work toward change.
