I help high achievers fix their dysfunctional relationships. You can have everything else, but if you have a relationship that's causing you resentment, confusion, anxiety, or pain you'll ask yourself, "What's the point?". If you're dealing with a dysfunctional person or an addicted partner it can be maddening trying to figure out the right thing to do. I can help you discern if you should stay or go and give you the exact step-by-step process to get your relationships back on track.

After completing my education at Wurzweiler School of Social Work in NYC, I worked at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx. There, I managed social work issues for a large ICU population. I became comfortable with patient and
family
concerns . This included the response to severe trauma, illness, conflict and loss. It led me to my most recent role in supporting and educating school age children with psycho-social issues. These include children with anxiety,
family
conflicts, and social concerns.

Through my experience, I have learned that taking an empathic, trauma informed,
family
systems approach is the most successful course of treatment when talking trauma.
Did you recently experience a loss so profound that you're feeling isolated, alone, in a room full of people? Maybe you're easily irritable and overwhelmed due to chronic trauma that you had no control over. Traumatic life experiences can be tough to navigate, but you do not have to walk through it alone! It is okay to ask for help. I am here to listen and guide you through the hard moments of life.

Life can be challenging. But sometimes life is more difficult than it should be. At times it may seem that however hard we try, we are unable to live the life we want. It may feel as if there is an invisible wall that gets between us and our hopes, aspirations, and goals. This "wall" may be caused by depression, anxiety,
family
issues or trauma, among other things. Fortunately, it is possible to free ourselves of these impediments and live the life we want for ourselves.

Small children aged 3 to 8 typically do not participate in
family therapy
because the vast majority of therapists consider such children too young to articulate their feelings or understand complex patterns of behavior.
Tool Box for Life and Relational Skills When clients graduate from treatment, they take with them a box full of "tools", such as effective anger management techniques, avoiding confrontations that lead to negative expressions of anger, resolving conflict peacefully and quietly, making the right decisions in every aspect of life, and perseverance to always build skills against life's problems and apply them consistently. Skill development is relational. No one lives in isolation; everyone maintains many types of relationships. Treatment provides chances to improve all relationships by communicating effectively, listening without making assumptions, and avoiding miscommunication that brings on anger and/or conflict.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
