Let’s be honest: Ideally, you’ll reach a point where you don’t need me anymore. I’m Doug, and while that might seem like a strange goal, it’s because I truly care about your healing and growth. My approach isn’t about keeping you here; it’s about empowering you to move forward with confidence and strength. In our sessions, we use tools like Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), Solution-Focused Therapy, and Existential Therapy not just to cope, but to thrive. Together, we’ll uncover paths that shed light on your challenges, guiding us naturally toward a fulfilling journey of wellness.

Very few things affect your enjoyment of life or sense of well being as much as the state of your marriage. The great news is that Improving the quality of your relationship is attainable. But it's vital to choose a counselor with training in methods that are proven and validated by research. Dave is the only male therapist approved for the Gottman Network between Atlanta and Orlando to have completed Level 3 in The Gottman Couples Counseling Method - the product of over 30 years of empirical research by Dr. John Gottman into what makes relationships succeed or fail.

Clients that have said I am exactly what they have been searching for are adults and couples who look “fine” but feel exhausted, on edge, stuck, or alone inside. They come in for trauma healing, couples conflict and disconnection, recovery from narcissistic abuse or betrayal, high-functioning adult ADHD overwhelm, and burnout from carrying too much. You may be overthinking, walking on eggshells, shutting down, snapping, or doubting yourself. My team and I use a warm, trauma-informed, evidence-based approach (EMDR, attachment work, skills) to calm the nervous system, rebuild trust, strengthen boundaries, and create real change.

I hear you. You feel on edge, anxious, or unsettled after what happened—an accident, medical experience, loss of loved one (or pet), or sudden terrible scare that your system hasn't been able to shake. Even if life looks "fine" on the outside, your body reacts as if something is still wrong. You want relief, clarify, and a way to feel calm and like yourself again without endlessly rehashing the past. You're looking for therapy that actually helps your nervous system reset and move forward.

When the pressures of daily life create distress, there is great satisfaction in finding a solution to lower your natural instinct of fear and anxiety. The main focus of my practice is to locate the limiting beliefs from your history, to free you from the contradictions that limit your growth and confuse you in relationships. The most important goal of therapy is to raise awareness regarding your natural inclination to react to negativity. When you are well anchored on the inside you will not emotionally react to an external challenge or threat.

My path to becoming your therapist is somewhat unique compared to others in the field. Over the years, I have built a diverse professional background that began with a career in sales. I then transitioned into the Long-Term Care Industry, where I served as both an Admissions and Marketing Director and a Director of Social Services. In addition to these roles, I have been actively involved in my community, working as an HIV/AIDS Intervention Specialist and a Substance Abuse Counselor. For a decade, I also had the privilege of serving as a Licensed Pastor.

Additionally, my background in pastoral counseling allows me to support clients in exploring their struggles while deepening or redefining their relationship with faith and spirituality.
As a first generation Filipina immigrant, I understand the complexities of growing up between cultures and the impact this can have on identity, relationships, and well-being. I am deeply passionate about working with BIPOC & AANHPI communities and bring years of experience supporting individuals navigating intergenerational trauma, religious and spiritual abuse, perfectionism, imposter syndrome, & complicated grief. I believe in meeting clients where they are while also gently challenging them to foster insight, growth, and meaningful change.

Spirituality Therapists
What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?
Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.

What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?
There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviors. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.

Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?
Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.

How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?
Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
