I have experience primarily working with individuals, couples, and families struggling with anxiety, depression, anger issues, relationship conflict, and spiritual issues.
I take a holistic approach to therapy, using methods and techniques primarily found in CBT as well as solution-focused approaches. I use CBT to draw connections between what emotions and thoughts fuel the behaviors to better understand what fuels the actions. Increasing the awareness of issues is often a first step to change. I use solution-focused approaches to identify what action steps can be taken throughout therapy. I have also found solution-focused to be useful when focusing on present issues, if there is no need to unpack and discuss the past with a client.

I also specialize in working with couples and individuals who have a history of anxiety and depression.
I am unable to take new clients at this time. After over thirty years in practice, my most studied specialty is in relationship counseling. Loving feelings can grow when couples make a commitment of just 4 to 6 sessions. I teach enhanced communication skills and a conflict resolution model to help you talk out an issue all the way to a solution. I can help you move past the anger and towards a deeper connection.

When the pressures of daily life create distress, there is great satisfaction in finding a solution to lower your natural instinct of fear and anxiety.
I have been in practice for 40 yrs and have developed an understanding of how our brain can work against us. If you have an over active brain stem you will experience difficulty in stopping certain thought patterns. It will be particularly difficult when you are trying to fall asleep. There are techniques and skills that will greatly assist in this process.

Live the life YOU love, that you intentionally created! It may sound cliché, but my goal for everyone of my clients is for you to be the architect of your own life. A lot of us fall into our lives or we wake up one day and wonder, “How did I get here?” Well I am here to help you live with intention, that includes making conscious choices to propel your life, go after your dreams or even get out of your own head. A lot of times we may have some obstacles such as past trauma, negative thought patterns or unhealthy relationships that have gotten us to this spot, and it is so very hard to break free at times. That is where I come in.

While many issues arise and unravel within therapy, I frequently work with clients experiencing difficulties associated with divorce, relationship difficulties, identity development, family issues, depression, anxiety, trauma, and life transitions.
I am passionate about the power of the therapeutic relationship and the growth that can occur when we take the time to nurture our minds. As you begin to understand your story and how that relates to the ways in which you interact with and experience relationships, change and growth can (and will) occur. I have experienced the positive impact of quality counseling in my own life, and I work hard to provide this for each of my clients.

Anxiety Therapists
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
