As a school counselor for 20+ years, I know the challenges of childhood/adolescence. Children are survivors of grief and trauma. They experience family changes and friendship worries. They may learn or socialize differently. Children sometimes feel anxious or depressed and their emotions may significantly impact behaviors. Often these challenges interfere with children's school success and stability at home. Through intentional care and child friendly therapeutic strategies, my goal is to help children thrive through it all. Utilizing play, art, games, and bibliotherapy, children can learn to feel safe sharing their thoughts, understanding their emotions and regulating their behaviors.

Life can be challenging and leave you feeling alone, stuck in a pattern of unhealthy and unhelpful thoughts. It can be discouraging to feel stuck and unsure of your next step, but you are not alone. I specialize in helping people going through difficult life transitions, anxiety, stress, depression, or low self-esteem. Therapy is a dedicated space to understand and improve your life. I often work with people who are experiencing sadness, frustration, anxiety, loneliness, and loss of meaning in their lives. Sometimes they know the cause of their feelings but many times they do not. Developing an awareness, understanding, and compassion for one's lived experience can help heal the pain causing our feelings. The work I do with clients often focuses on emotion and trauma.

Life challenges, past hurts, consuming worries, and loss can be so overwhelming at times that it can feel as though they are directing your life. It is during these times that we seek to access our inner resilience to open the door to healing and a pathway to a life of feeling present, connected, and fulfilled. In that time, I have learned that each person is unique; with their own combination of strengths, struggles and histories. We start with getting to know each other and then focus on what you want to change/improve. We work together to set goals and then to achieve those goals. Do you struggle with depression, anxiety and/or stress in your life? I enjoy helping clients explore their life story and establish connections from their past with their current behavioral patterns. As we go through life, we often receive messages that having certain emotions are bad. When we experience hurt, rejection and/or abandonment, we often become overly focused on finding ways to prevent ourselves from experiencing pain again. This often comes at a cost which can then often compound the pain we are feeling. Additionally, many of my clients struggle with control and/or perfectionist thinking.

Healing is more than just fixing what's not working; it's about living an engaged life that feels meaningful and purposeful for you. In order to create impactful change, we must first understand what we want to move towards. Together we will identify goals and create a path forward that reflects where you want to go and focuses on your therapeutic goals. I will strive to create a safe environment to support you in your journey. That means seeing you as a whole person and seeing the context in which you live, including your culture, identities, and history.

I provide therapy for adults, college students and adolescents with various mental health concerns that include mood disorders, PTSD, grief and adjustment disorders, and relational distress. I seek to form deep and authentic relationships with clients and sit with them in struggle and loss. I empathetically connect with clients in order to facilitate healing in a safe environment and empower them to find their voice and practice healthy practices in relationships. I help clients move forward by collaboratively solving problems, examining and restructuring negative beliefs, and bringing forth their true identity and strengths.

When children argue, tantrum, cry easily, or yell it can be stressful for the whole family. As parents, we can feel overwhelmed or worried about the future. If our child has experienced a trauma, we can be heartbroken and at a loss for how to help them heal. Sometimes we wonder if our child’s issues are our fault, or why our relationship isn’t as warm and supportive as we imagined. We can even be upset by our own anger with our child. Our children can feel like they “aren’t good” at getting along, or they can be confused about their own emotions. As a family, we may not be able to do things we want to like going out to restaurants.

I specialize in somatic therapy for those who have experienced trauma. Anxiety, dissociation, reactivity, chronic worry, addiction, and hypervigilance are all adaptive responses for the body after having experienced trauma (car accidents, loss, sexual assault, oppression, domestic violence, emotional abuse, developmental/attachment injuries, and many other historically ignored experiences). My approach is queer, trans, & non-monogamous affirming, sex-positive, and based on a harm reduction approach to addiction.

My approach to counseling focuses on the whole person (body, mind, spirit and relationships) to help people heal, grow, thrive, reach personal goals and flourish. I have over 20 years of experience working with individuals and groups in private practice, educational and community settings. My training in Counseling (MA), Exercise Science (MS), Nutrition (PhD, Licensed Nutritionist), and Intuitive Eating (certification) provides a unique expertise to help people transform their lives.

I am a licensed clinical social worker. I began my career in the child dependency field and worked with children and families. I currently work in the hospital setting and my current role is the emergency room social worker. I have a variety of experience from newborns to older adults throughout my career. I have work with a wide variety of patient populations. As I progress in my career there is always still more to learn along the way. Many of the patients I see have experienced a traumatic event or recent life change.

I have been in the field of counseling for more than 30 years, With a strong emphasis on spiritual counseling and natural healing. I enjoy working with individuals and couples, and currently work heavily with college students. I have a strong history of working with trauma, anxiety, depression and life changes as well as spiritual matters.
