I implement a variety of theoretical approaches that are strengths-based and person-centered, this includes solution-focused, narrative, feminist, somatic, dialectical behavioral and cognitive-behavioral therapies.
We all face challenges in our lives. The current climate of our world can often lead us to feel like our struggles are outweighing life's gifts. I work to help clients balance the different aspects of their lives. Together, we can challenge unwanted negative thoughts and work on changing how we react to the struggles that we face each day with a goal of strengthening healthy emotional regulation and coping skills. I believe in the importance and effectiveness of a strong therapeutic alliance between clinician and client, this alliance serves as the foundation for meaningful and rewarding treatment.

I provide unconditional acceptance in my practice and take each client where they are--doing the best they can with what they've got. After hearing your situation, I will collaborate with you on the best way to proceed. Finding the right fit in a therapist can be a challenge, but if you are ready and willing to do the work, I may have a place for you in my schedule.

I believe that the therapeutic relationship itself is the greatest agent of change in therapy. Through cultivated trust, I support clients to explore darkness in order to find what brings them light and joy. I offer an approach focused on the needs, wants, and hopes of the person or couple in the room, which means that my approach varies on a client by client basis.

Feeling stuck? Struggling to set a boundary? Goals, successes, and happiness are often guided and, occasionally hindered, by the situations we find ourselves in. Traumatic events, interpersonal struggles, and difficult environments can make it challenging to walk our own path and to reach our potential. In these times of hardship it is important to find direction and to develop safety and a strong sense of self. It is with this strength we can make plans for positive changes in the future.

I work with individuals and couples who wish to bring greater authenticity, meaning, depth, and awareness to their life journey. Therapy illuminates the many layers of self, allowing us to see inward with ever greater clarity. As self-knowledge deepens, so does the ability to shed versions of ourselves that no longer serve us. We move toward a life path that aligns with who we are in our core; a life of ease, fulfillment, and truth. This approach to therapy is best suited for courageous and insightful individuals who are willing to journey into the depths of the psyche, moving through both darkness and light.

I strive to create a collaborative relationship that is focused upon you realizing your personal goals. Together we will work with your strengths to identify solutions to your problems.

I enjoy working with young adult clients who are seeking to engage in a change process and identify patterns that are keeping them stuck, whether in relationship to self, their support system or their environment. I primarily work with clients who are transitioning from their therapist at home as they begin college in the Burlington area, or those who are established students at one of the local universities. I also provide services for wilderness therapy guides in search of their own therapeutic support or those looking to intentionally process their field work.

I am neurodivergent, feminist, queer, sex-positive, body positive.
Let me acknowledge that it can be so challenging to find a therapist that takes your insurance, has availability, aligns with your schedule, and is someone you click with. Let me tell you all the main things you need to know to determine if we might be a good fit: I offer virtual individual sessions to adults residing in Vermont and New Jersey. I mostly work in the evenings, with limited availability during the day. I don't have much flexibility in my schedule, so I typically see clients on consistent days and times - weekly or bi-weekly. Please email to connect.

Feminist Therapists

How does feminist therapy work?

Feminist therapy sessions are not only personal but often cultural or political in nature, as the approach is based on the belief that people are affected by, and often struggle with, cultural and societal norms and biases, and need to move beyond those external pressures or stressors to tap their own confidence and engage more fully in their own identity. Sessions may therefore include discussions of sexism, diversity, and gender issues and talk of steps toward greater empowerment for patients who believe they have been silenced and seek to raise their voices.

What are examples of feminist therapy techniques?

Along with traditional talk therapy and analysis, a feminist therapist may employ techniques such as role-playing and assertiveness training to help clients build their self-esteem so that they feel they can act freely, and not based on cultural expectations or gender roles dictated by others. A feminist therapist may also engage in bibliotherapy, offering suggested readings on gender identity or social power inequities as they work toward viewing mental-health concerns through a broad cultural lens before focusing on how they affect the individual. Somatic therapy techniques, with an emphasis on body awareness, self-compassion, and mindfulness practices are also often part of feminist therapist practice.

How long does feminist therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for feminist therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. It may take some time to become comfortable discussing personal issues, but once a client feels they can do so, they could expect therapy to last for a number of months, typically including at least 12 sessions.

Does feminist therapy work?

As a relatively recent therapeutic technique, there is not yet a body of evidence proving the efficacy of feminist therapy. However, the approach is based on proven core principles of talk therapy, with a particular emphasis on developing a therapeutic relationship based on equality and authentic connection between therapist and client and discovering and building on clients’ personal strengths to help them gain a greater sense of personal power and agency.
